I installed F1 2001 on my son's computer with a Voodoo3 3000 video card. It
has DX8.1 installed, but the game says it won't play because there are "no
DX8 video adapters found". Does anybody know if there is a DX8 driver
available for this card?

I read that only Voodoo 5 recognises DX8 and if you read in the read me file
on the EA Sports cd I think it has some reference to there as well

I may be wrong but don't think F1-2001 works with Voodoo-3, the
Voodoo-5 is supposed to though.

The video driver would be the lastest/last 3dfx Voodoo3 drivers
(which support DX8.0 at least). The last drivers I ran (file name)
were,

v3-w9x-1.06.00.exe

easy to find with a Yahoo/Google search.

I asked a similar Q a week back.  The couple of answers I received indicate
that it's a no-go.  So, now I have to buy a $100 vid card to take advantage of
the $19.99 deal I got on the game :-O

Which card?  Well, I'm leaning toward either a GF2 Ti  64MB.   Others have
commented on how the GF4's are just around the corner and expect the price of
GF3's to drop accordingly.

has some newer drivers for V3/4/5 cards, I have not tested them myself
though, so can't say if they're any good or not, well Scott Husted would
tell you all that I couldn't say even I had tested them, but we all know
how much his word counts...:-)

Tried those before. No DX8 in the V3 setup. It could be the card just won't
do it, but I don't know why.  Wait.... I while back I used V5500 drivers
with a V3 and it worked (except for the FSAA stuff, of  course). Maybe it
would support DX8 with those drivers.

Really ?

Didn't know you could do that even, not that I have any systems with a
V3 that I use for *** anymore, but I'm sure some people could find
that useful to squeeze some more life out of an aging system

Personally I'm holding on to my V5's for a bit longer :-)

This one was answered a little way down guys. Unfortunately, the Voodoo 3
series can't handle the default texture size that the game requires. So
unless someone has managed to compress all the textures to 256X256, I don't
think it'll work.
