Mipmapping in F1 2001?

by Ruud van Ga » Thu, 24 Jan 2002 03:51:27

Hi all,

I just got F1 2001 after seeing that it seems so good, but I can't get
mipmapping to be turned on (or anisotropic filtering, while were at
it).

I did turn on FSAA in 16-bit (seems in 32-bit it doesn't work
according to the patch readme), but the shimmering is just awful.
Anybody have a clue how to turn this on?

Thanks,

Mipmapping seems to *be* on. Look in "F10"-view, behind the car and go
into a gravel pit. It actually seems to do trilinear by default. But
for some undisclosed reason there doesn't seem to be enough
mip-levels. 2, maybe 3, at most.

Same problem here.

Did some testing with several drivers nothing helped, till I did change the
AGP-bus speed in de Bios.

From 4x enabled to 2x, problem gone.  So it seem to be the trick for me.

System is AMD 1.2, 768 mb RAM, GF2MX, Win 98SE

Sorry, why did you change the AGP-bus speed ? And what is it now ? ...

Are you talking about FSAA now ?

Gosh I think you're right. I found the driver.PLR file and turned off
compressed textures, which also helped to increase the quality a bit.
Mipmapping was set to 1, and it does look like it's being used, only
halfly so.

It's a shame, since I tend to just lower the texture quality to get
less shimmering (so upclose you get ugly pixels).

Thanks for that,
