After reading so many postings from happy GPL users I decided to download
the demo.

However I am having probs with sound distortion and poor performance, very
jerky and unplayable. I am hoping someone can help me.

My system spec is:

AMD k62/300
Intel 740 AGP 2d 8mb card
Creative Voodoo 2 8mb
Creative Soundblaster AWE32

I have tried playing the game with and without 3dfx selected, same problem
exists.

I have updated all drivers, to no avail (including 3dfx drivers from
3dfx.com)

The sound distortion also exists when in the menus (the PA announcements)

The demo will not let me change sound quality, it is "16 Bit 22khz"

I have also experimented with the number of voices option, with no
improvement.

With a 300mhz cpu you will need to turn ai cars to a minimum, GPL's ai is very cpu
intensive, a 400 or better is recommended. Make sure you have the 2.53 drivers in
the GPL directory. Detail slider at 50% and turn some more options off until fps
gets to 30-36 (max). Your sound card should be fine for sound but it's gameport will
also hurt the fps. It should run fine with some tweaking.

The sound is ALWAYS distorted in the PA announcements. Don't expect to
understand them...<g>
