I use a wheel with only 2 pedals, so I have a button to unclutch, and
pass the first gear before the start.
When the green flag go down, I just have to release this button to go
...
I feel it's better than passing the first gear when the green flag is
down....

... BUT, this doesn't work in an online race.... I simply cannot pass
the first gear before green...
I wondered if it was normal or not ? (I found a replay from an online
race, where a driver was in first gear before start...)

Does someone know anything about that ?
( I use the french version of GPL, but I don't think that is the problem
)...

However, is it a better way to use the unclutch pedal at start when it's
a button, or not ?

Hi Stphane,

My suggestion is to try the button for a clutch again.  I have noticed
that at a race start (both on- and offline), GPL will not let me
clutch and drop into gear *immediately* upon entering the grid, but I
am always able to get in gear well before the green flag drops.

I haven't yet figured out if this is a bug or a feature.  ;)

I read somewhere that everyone racing needs to be on the grid before you can
shift into first gear.

You cant select 1st gear in an online race untill everyone has gotten to the
grid.  Just keep pressing the shifter until it goes into 1st gear.  I think
there is something like 20-30 seconds between the time that all the cars
join and the time that the flag goes down so don't worry about time.

Yea until every gets to the grid you cannot engage first, just keep pulling
for the gear until you get it, normally it is right before the flag goes up.

It's a feature, and an important one. Think about what would happen in an
online race if you were able to put your car in gear and move ahead to
another grid position before the person who belongs there arrived... when
they DO arrive, WHAM, instant grid explosion, cars flying everywhere, all
before the green ever drops.

From what I've been able to observe, you are allowed to shift into first on
the grid only after all the cars are in place. If some players don't go to
the grid at the start, then your shifter becomes operational once the 30
second countown ends and the game is certain that no more cars are going to
appear.
