GPL: driving w/ clutch

Is this me being so damn tired or do the cars behave different when the sim
is configured to have an analog clutch? It happens very often now that when
I am downshifting to enter a slower turn WITHOUT using the pedal clutch, the
tail end starts coming around. I even thought that I was using the wrong
setup, but nope, everything was just like yesterday, 'xept my lap times are
worse for  two seconds!!! What is this?

        Before I say anything else, I use a Thrustmaster GP1 so I've
never tried GPL with a clutch pedal.  However, it sounds like you've
lost the benefit of the computer's double declutching.

I remember that on the original Watkins Glen GPL demo I would
often (very often!) spin out on the final turn after downshifting to
second or first gear.  One of the first things I noticd about the
release version of GPL was how the computer automatically blipped the
throttle between downshifts.  Although there have been a lot more
changes from the demo than that, I've found this semi-automatic
gearbox makes the car a lot more stable under braking/downshifting.

I suppose you're going to have to learn how to heel and toe if
you want to keep your clutch pedal.  This isn't such a bad thing,
really!

Moses. Learn the heel 'n' toe thing? Isn't this hard enough? So how should I
downshift then?

Again, let me state that this is only a theory as I've never
actually used a clutch in GPL.

When going into a turn, brake using the front portion of your
foot (as you normally do).  Clutch in-downshift-blip throttle with rear
portion of your foot-clutch out.  Repeat procedure for each downshift.
During this entire motion your right foot is still pressing on the brake
pedal.
If you've ever seen the movie "Grand Prix" (I highly recommend it
if you haven't) there is great footage of Phil Hill's and Jo Bonnier's feet
working the pedals.

I suppose double declutching in GPL would be something that
borders on major-pain-in-the-ass and rewarding-once-you-know-how.  Since
I've never experienced it first hand I can't tell you which category it
falls under!
