WinModem and ICR2, HELP....

by Robi » Thu, 13 Mar 1997 04:00:00

A friend of mine has a winmodem and ICR2, I'd love to play him over
the modem but when he goes to DOS to run ICR2, he can't access his
modem. Anyone find a way around this. Other than playing it from
Win95?????

Any ideas appreciated.

I believe that the U.S. Robotics WinModem is designed to be used in Windows
only. Probably his only other option is to buy a new modem.

Hope this helps...

Many of the plug-n-pray modems either need DOS drivers, or just plain
won't work at all in DOS. In any event, contact the modem manufacturer
to determine if DOS drivers are available, or if you're SOL for DOS
apps.

You can only use the Winmodem in windows. It will not be recognized in
Dos. The solution is to get a real modem. You can get a Zoom for about
the samre price.

Unfortunately a "winmodem" lives up to its name, it will only work
inside the Windows environment.  The only other solution is s***the
winmodem and get a real modem.

Yes tell him to get a real modem! The WIN modem is for use with windows
only that's the only way it will work!

Remember, never skimp on your equipment

Actually, there is another solution, go to:

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

This is an add-in board with one or two COM ports that will allow you to
use a "winmodem" in DOS.  It has 16750 UARTs, which result in generally
better communications all around (64 byte buffer instead of 8 byte,
higher throughput, etc.).
