I cant get NR1999 to initialize my winmodem. I've read that one should
stay away from these modems but since I already have one, is there a
work around to getting this to work?

I hate to be the one to tell you this but the only way I found to fix my
winmodem was to take it out, smash it with a hammer in gut rage, and replace
it with a NON-WINMODEM.

No really.  I replaced my winmodem with a real modem and haven't had a
problem since.  It was worth the $$ IMHO.  It sucks, I know, but I don't
know what else to tell you.  Winmodems are really inferior pieces of sh*t.

Thanks for the info. I just ordered a real modem and plan on sending
this winmodem back to USR in pieces.

I replaced my 'real' modem with a LT WinModem and have had great fun playing
GPL online since!
The real Modem was a pain in the a**!! Regular discos. Now I have played for
hours without disconnects...
I guess I was just lucky...?

Glad I bought a piece of sh*** :)
