You can turn off this help in the control-options. Under the
digital/analog-steering option there are two buttons. Switch them off!

WHY!!!! do people keep posting for information that is IN THE MANUAL???

Maybe they didn't get the manual with their version?????

Read the manual or buy a "new" copy.

Just like the guy who asked if you can enable gp2 to run without a cd
because he dosnt want to keep putting his cd in!!
Gee I wonder why he wants to do that?

Wasn't me that asked that question (and btw, I've sent a few RTFM
responses as well <g>), but to my mind, having to put a CD in the
drive seems a retro step and reminds me too much of when I didn't have
a hard drive & had to keep on inserting floppy disks. Besides which,
my CD drive occasionally makes grinding noises.... So there is a
legitimate reason for not wanting to have the CD in the drive.

Well, if one drives via the keyboard, I don't think there is a way of
turning off steering help.  Maybe, just maybe the guy is a keyboard
jockey?!

Well, let's see now.....  I did a full install and usually have a CD in
my drive for "productive" work.  Now why should I have to eject the CD,
insert GP2 just so I can tool around the track????

Go to the Control Menu then click on advanced. On the upper-left of the
screen there is a steering help option. Turn it off.

You have to use joystick then to modify the control settings.
With keys it's not possible..

If it's THAT much hassle, why don't you add another cheap cd to you SCSI
chain and have one productive and one entertaining cd?    B-)

Cheers!

Well, let's see now. A **FULL* install of GP2 puts about 55MB of data on
your hard drive. My GP2 CD has over 550MB of data on it. So, unless
you've got an extra 500-600MB of space available on your hard drive and
can "hack" the GP2 EXE file to remove the CD checks, you're always going
to need the CD in the drive to be able to play.

BTW, I am aware that someone put a so-called "full release" version up
in some of the WAREZ newsgroups but since it was **ONLY** about 40MB or
so in size I don't know what they cut out. I guess if they cut out the
200+MB of sounds and 200+MB of track data they could make it come out
that small but what's left at that point <grin>?

I haven't seen that 'warez' version, but I think it has all the essential
game components. I did the full install, which was about 55mb, as you
said. About 13mb of that is animations, which aren't really necessary
for gameplay. That leaves us with about 42mb, the size of the warez
version. Turn off the music in the menus, and you won't need the
200mb of sounds on the CD. All the sounds during driving are on your
harddisk.
So far so good, but how can we play since we have no trackdata?
But we actually have it. If you monitor the CD-ROM usage when playing
the game, it only accesses the drive long enough to check if the correct
CD is in the drive. It does not access it long enough to load anything
from the CD-ROM. I think that 200+MB track data file is bogus. I think
MP put the file there just to discourage any wannabe pirates from copying
the game, thinking that it would be too large.
If you're wondering where all the graphics for the tracks are, they
are in the 'GAMEJAMS' directory and it's subdirectories.
