I'm affraid it is true. I've seen it on various pirate sites. I think
it was 21 1.44meg zips. I'm not going to get it because I've waited
long enough for GP2, I think I can pay for this one. Don't you just
hate it when the pirates get it before the legit paying populous?

I think it's a favour we owe, after all MPS, and Geoff's team's
efforts, to buy the game fair and square. I too wanna play it now, but
when I read that there's a pirate version doing the rounds i felt like
shit inside. I don't even want to see the pirate version, it's a total
sign of disrespect and I think we owe more.

Y'know, this is one of these times I REALLY hope the pirate version has
a horrendous virus that wipes out the hard-disk of those who steal it.

We've waited years for this, moaned, complained, agonised, begged,
worried over PC specs and hoped for features. The very LEAST that can be
done is to give some reward to the people that made it.

yes,pirating sucks etc.

but don't u think it's "safer" to download it,try and see how it does on
your machine,afterwards,if u like it,just buy it when it comes out,else
just delete it.
It's a safer bet than paying $90 for it only to find out it doesn't run
on your machine at a acceptable rate.

This is a beta version, and it doesn't work (the one I tried didn't).

piracy is wrong but don't expect the pirate version to have a virus. Cheap
virus programmers won't waste time to rip a 21disk cd just to infect.
These warez thing is done by groups so there's the 99% chance it doesn't
have a virus. So far I've only been infected once ;)

Yeah, in principle it's a good idea, but in practice it's simply
encouraging piracy. I'd rather wait ten days than go into a warez
group and drag a free game that I don't deserve out! If you can't wait
ten days and decide to get the game, then buy it properly when it is
released then that's all very well but you're just supporting pirates
who will supply it to people who don't end up buying it. Whatever way
YOU go about it, Microprose will still suffer regardless; so think
about it first.

Right I'm not a greedy bastard so shut up!!! If you red the other
newgroup letters you would know that I am infact not bothered about gettin
the ***y game. i would rather buy it myself. I was trying to get it
for a friend who shall remain nameless so they can avoid the hassle.

Yes but the pirate version could only be a copy of one of the beta
releases. Thus it would not be an accurate example of frame rates yet
anyhow. So you really need to buy the real thing or listen to this news
group for reviews.

Take heart Dave... I've heard some news about this 21 disk "release"
by some pirate group.

First, the files in it date back to January 96, or previous... some as
far back as last summer! Nothing - nothing in it is dated anytime in
the last few months, except for the cracks it comes with. This would
make it an early beta, or possibly even an alpha.

Second, it has the BURGLAR virus attached to many of the .exe files,
so any sucker stupid enough to download it is gonna get zapped.

Think about it - the only way this could make it to warez before it
was released (Microprose ain't nearly as big as Mickeysoft, so theres
almost no chance it could be stolen in final form from the coders) - ,
the only way it could have been grabbed is by some lamo who ripped the
CD beta or alpha at some trade show, packaged the CDrip up, and
started distributing it, but he probably had Burglar on his system
when he tested it out....

Oh well, my thoughts about warez pirating of software from big
corporations is pretty ambivilant (especially when a company like
Corel wants to charge me almost $400 Cdn for an Upgrade!!!), but I
don't like it when the small guys, like Microprose, get zapped... and
it looks like anyone trying to get their GPII fix from this warez is
gonna get some unexpected guests in the computers... and slow
performance from a beta.
