GP2 Serial link probs :(

by Robert Sno » Sat, 22 Mar 1997 04:00:00

Hi world
My friend & I are trying to get GP2 running via the serial
link, we are using structured cable & a RJ45 to serial adaptor.
I select lead my friend selects follow, I start the link 1 st he follows
they lights on the break out box flash (crossed over 2-3 pins) but
the links never connect, I have patched to the 97_23 carset,
I am running in DOS my friend in dos mode (rebooted into from 95)
We also tryed with both running from within win95 to no avail.
We have no problemo's with Mechwarrier 2 so the hardware links
are OK.

 Any offers

  Regards Robert

When I played GP1 using a direct link (null modem) it was through the
parallel ports, not the serial port...

GP2 Serial link probs :(

Hi Robert,

I also tried to race against others using a Null modem cable. My brother
and I had also installed several new carsets and with them installed it
just didn't work. We obtained error messages indicating version
incompatibilities. We resolved the problem by reinstalling the basic out of
the box version. Unfortunately we didn't have time yet to test whether
using the same carset updates is another possibility of resolving the
problem.

Good Luck

Youre kidding, eh ? GP2 does not even support IPX lans, only this slow
serial line.

Hi Robert,

You should not work so hard to get the game to run linked and race your
buddy.
Even on the fastest system, the modem link causes the game(GP2) to run
around 3to5
frames per second. Its irritating and amazing that Microprose would
advertise modem
capability and then try to unload that ***on us. If couriousity kills
the cat you
will find out exactly what im talking about.

Good luck anyway!  ":>)

Well...
for me, the serial link works quite well (p100-p200).. got about 16
fps...and it's great to race against a human player..

Have fun

Peter

Heya Peter,

16 fps are the best results reported yet for link play on GP2.
Even though alot of us guys are used to 25 to 30fps(modem) on ICR2,
that still is at least "playable". Care to inlighten these
guys the exact details. Ive seen alot of questions on "how tos"
about that same subject. In past posts, noone has come near that
framerate
via link on GP2.

You have to bear in mind that David Gary lives in his own world where
there is nothing better to do than to give GP2 shit.
