GP2- Heeelp me!!!! :(

Hello there!!!
I was wondering if anyone could help me with my problems in
running GP2... I have an Acer P166 with 24Megs of RAM. SHOULD be enough
to run GP2, right?
When I try to run it, it's very very VERY slow if I leave the automatic
detail settings on. In the install I exceed every minimum spec by a long
ways... so I can't understand the problem.
My father owns a 75Mhz Toshiba laptop on which the same copy of the
game runs fine... but it won't run on my computer!!! I've tried running
it in both Win95 and DOS mode with the same slowness.
I'd estimate the slowness to be about equal to as if I was running a
100Mhz 486 PC. If I turn the detail settings all off, the game runs ok
but still bogs down when there are a few cars on the screen... It's
really wierd!!!
I don't read any FAQ's or anything so I don't know if this is an easily
fixable problem that is well known... but I am baffled. I really really
really want to run this game but at the speed it goes on my computer it
is unplayable. Every other game I have runs fine though.
Anyone have ANY ideas?!!? Please email me if you can.

        Thanks so much in advance,
                                        Jeremy

Maybe your L1 or L2 cache is disabled?  Check this in your BIOS settings.

Use the 'o' key during races to check up on how hard your processor is
working.  Use the 'log' command to save a logfile which might give you a clue
or two as to what's going wrong.

Other than blaming the Devil and all his works, that's the best I can do.
