Guys....

Congratulations to Dave!  He and his Archangel teammates won the ALMS Sears
Point Race yesterday (in LMP675 class) and finished 19th overall.  This is
quite an accomplishment.  Now it will be even more fun to beat him in online
sim racing on Monday nights!

A few pics are below....and the official SPR press release follows.

Dave is a regular online racer in both N2K2 and GPL (participates in a
couple GPL leagues) and posts occassionally here on r.a.s.  Dave handles the
online schools and licensing for Pabst-Racing's ISRA programs.

Be sure to send Dave your own "congrats"...when you get a chance!
Especially those of you who race with him online.

Regards,

Tom

SEARS POINT PRESS RELEASE - 5/20/02

SONOMA, Calif. - Jan Magnussen survived a furious late charge by Johnny
Herbert to win the American Le Mans Series Grand Prix of Sonoma, presented
by Foster's Lager, Sunday at Sears Point Raceway.

Magnussen and co-driver David Brabham led most of the two-hour, 45-minute
sports car endurance race in a Panoz LMP-1 Prototype. However, Magnussen,
while driving the final stint, withstood an *** by Herbert, who tangled
with a lapped car while challenging Magnussen at the finish line on the last
lap.

The Audi R8 that was co-driven by Herbert and Tom Kristensen was credited
with second place, just .482 second behind the winner. Herbert, who withdrew
from making a qualifying attempt at the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday morning
and flew to California to race at Sears Point, took over the series point
lead after two of 10 races.

Bryan Herta and Bill Auberlen finished third in another Panoz LMP-1, giving
former CART standout Herta his first podium finish in sports car racing.

Ben Devlin and Dave McEntee drove a Lola B2K-Ford and scored a two-lap win
in the LMP 675 class for smaller Prototypes, while Ron Fellows and Johnny O'
Connell led all the way in a Chevrolet Corvette C5-R to win the GTS class by
a lap. Lucas Luhr and Sascha Maassen won the GT class in a Porsche 911 GT3
RS.

The race started under rain conditions, but the rain stopped and the
2.53-mile circuit was dry for the final third of the event.

Wrong headline there Tom

The important fact from this race was that Jan won it and fellow dane Tom
Kristensen came in second.
Danes RULE sportscar racing ;)

Hey Dave, remember me? I always was bragging how I raced with a real
professional. Racing GPLemans was my first league. I learned so much from
those guys. But mostly how to race in a fun and competitive way.
I hope to see you at the Cadillac Grand Prix in Washington DC this summer.
I've only heard of you driving at Sears Point (or was that Laguna Seca last
year?) and this year at Sears. But I sent you the earliest notice of the
then named Grand Prix of Washington DC.
And if you ever want to do some N2K2 racing, onlineracin.com is a great
place to race.
Hope to see you in DC this summer.

Indeed it is. If this was a sportscar newsgroup there wouldn't be a
problem, and it is genereally not advisable to visit newsgroups
concerning a race one have to wait for. However, this is
r.a.simulators, where race results are usually offtopic, and I think a
spoiler warning should be issued. One this is staying off relevant
places on the internet to advoid a race result, another is to stay out
of the net entirely.

rant over :)

I would agree but this did involve a "sim" racer :)

That's funny, I thought David Brabham won it, and Johnny Herbert was
second.  Did we watch the same race?  ;-)

Can we all at least agree that Panoz won, and Audi came second :)

Well was it a factory Audi or a privateer?  Or was it a factory Audi run
by the privateers?  Or was it a privateer Audi run by former F1 has-beens?
or...
..:)

Hey guys.....

I thought announcing the class winner (19th overall) of a race that was
broadcast live on Speed Channel.....wasn't "spoiling" anything for anyone.
Its not being rebroadcast for a few weeks.  The fact that Dave is a fellow
sim racer...and a poster on this newsgroup....further adds to my reason for
making the post.  I'm sorry if I upset some of you.....it was not
intentional.  I was e***d for Dave....was with him when he exited the
racecar after the race.  I thought you guys would like to know who he was
(is).
