Dreamcast Ferrari 355 Challenge

Just wanting to know why this game has pit stops?  Even when I set the race
distance to 'Endurance', the pitstops still seem unnecessary.  Also, do I
have to come first in the championship to unlock all of the tracks?  Are the
tracks all unlocked at once?

Damien

P.S.  I've only just started playing this game, and to me, it feels just as
realistic as GPL - it's more fun though since 355s brake much better than 67
GP Cars and the graphics are lightyears ahead of any of the PC racing sims.
(No, I'm not a troll - I like GPL too)

Is there a Dreamcast emulator for the PC by any chance?  Little chance of me
picking up a Dreamcast but I would get this game if I could run it on my pc.

I don't think there are any more tracks, unless the same tracks are there
reversed.  I've seen the empty slots in the second page of the track
selection screen, but I also know the game only has 6 tracks.

As for the pitstops, they definitely don't play any part in the game at all,
apart from losing you a lot of time :)  There's no fuel consumption or tire
wear, even in the longest races.  I don't know why they're there.  Since the
animation is there, they should have been used really.

The only thing I would say about the physics is that surely it can't be this
easy to drive such a powerful car?  But you're right, the physics are very
good.

That's what I thought, so I leant my game collection to my boss (who owns an
F355) in the hope he would give me an answer.  I kept asking him if he'd
played it yet, but his response was .. "I've got the real thing, I don't
need to play the game.." so I decided to take the games home again.  I asked
him for them back, and what game was on the top?  F355.  I think that says
how good it is.

Andy (still doesn't know how realistic it is)

In addition to the original arcade there are:

Fiorana,
Atlanta (oval)
Laguna Seca
Malaysia

in the Eu edition, these cheat codes work:
In options, press X + Y, then choose the "Passwords" selection. Enter
these paswords to unlock courses:

KualaLumpur
FaqotaDondlata
DaysofThunder
RietiaNovelto

If you save game state, you will not have to reenter.

They're going to start selling Dreamcast for $99 bucks a pop in very short
order. heh- that's less than a decent video card so I may just get one. ;)

A DC is well worth getting, Soul Calibre, Dead or Alive 2, Shenmue, F355
Challenge, Sega GT, Virtua Fighter 3 and a few others are all excellent.

How's Sega GT?  Gee... well over a decade of pc *** and I've never owned
a console game before.  Dare I?  :-)

To be honest, it's not as good as it should have been.  It's a total Gran
Turismo copy, but it lacks the perfection of Gran Turismo.  The graphics of
course, are way better than Gran Turismo, so I'm really comparing Sega GT
with how good Gran Turismo was when it was first released, maybe that's a
little unfair.

Anyway, the things wrong are that the tracks are too easy, theres only 1 or
2 tricky tracks.  Plus the structure of the game is kinda spoiled a little
by the fact that you get full second-hand price for cars you sell.  The cars
you won in Gran Turismo all sold for the same amount, and it was next to
nothing.  In Sega GT you can win 1 race, win the car for that race and sell
it, and get loads of money really quickly.

Apart from that the cars and tracks look great, and the physics feel very
good, but F355 is a better game.

You can't really emulate a DC on the PC. Maybe in a couple years, but
current PCs aren't powerful enough.

Sega, however, has just announced another price-cut for the DC to $99.
They are getting out of the console business, so it does also mean the
DC is dying. But there are great games out for it now, and it's dirt-
cheap - you can't even buy a good PC graphics card for 99 bucks!

No, sorry!

Just found something else interesting in F355.  On the main title screen, if
you press X + Y, it comes up with a 'CABLE VERSUS PLAY' option.  So I assume
that there is a link cable for DC?
