This may be one of the better driving simulations released this year.  Let's
hope they don't dumb it down for American audiences.

A bit rude there.  I think it's usually a case of "dumb it down for greater
mass appeal".  If the internet has proven anything, it's that no nation has
a monopoly on idiocy.

Ummm, I didn't comment on the nation (I was born and raised there) but on
the game.  As an example.... The physics model of Gran Turismo for the
Playstation was changed so that the cars were more tail happy than in the
rapanese release.  Sony felt that the american audience would not be able to
cope with the difficulty of the japanese release.  Therefore it was "dumbed"
down.

As was I.  And it really doesn't matter where you were born- your opinion is
just as valid regardless of where you're from.

I'm not sure that making the cars looser is actually dumbing them down, but
in any case it sounds like Sony may have responded to feedback from their
Japanese release.  And as I said earlier, companies often dumb things down
for greater mass appeal, whether its television or computer games.
Appealing to the lowest common denominator (whether in matters of taste or
quality) is often an easy route to higher profits no matter what the
country.  As an example... aren't most of the explanations for the sales
failure of GPL due to this very same concept?

Of course Americans wouldn't be able to drive as well as Japanese
users, look at the long history of great Japanese auto racing talent!
All those silly 'mericans have is Mario Andretti, Phil Hill, Dan
Gurney, AJ Foyt, The elder Unsers, etc.  Remember Shinji Nakano, now
THERE was a legend. :;)

'King Hiro... :)

Actually, Nakano is riding superbikes now.  He's pretty good at it, too.

GPL didn't sell because who gives a damn about driving 1967 cars?  Maybe if
it was based on the 1998 NASCAR season, had shortcuts, power-ups and tracks
that need to unlocked then it would have sold more.

By the way... "lowest common denominator" == USA.  I'm not saying that we
have a ***hold on idiocy, but we're damn close.

Nah.... its just the larger population than most other countries.  More
people means more idiots online with US servers.  It's a percentage deal.  I
hope.  :-)
