Hi All,

I have the job of doing race reports for a GPL Pro race series. The
trouble is the replay seems to only save the 5 cars ahead and 1 behind
from ME. There are 18 or 19 cars in this series. It seems that from my
replay I can only see how the race went for those around me. If I
happen to be down the tail end of the race, it seems I can get no
information about what was happening at the front. Is this correct or
am I ignorant of something.

With whatever limitations the replay file has, are there any utilities
that enables one to read the replay. Eg. all I need is the positions
on each lap. These may well be stored somewhere there in plan English
for all I know. Any other methods or devices for getting information
on how everyone a race faired ?

Your advice will be much appreciated.

Phillip.
Unfortunately there is only one solution. That is to get hold of the host's
replay. I know that this will be a royal pain if you have a modem
connection.

GPL will only show limited numbers of cars for a client for reasons of
bandwidth consideration.

I feared so. Thanks for your reply. I'll have to see how hard it will
be to get the hosts reply - and what size it will be. Otherwise my
reports will just have to be a " How My Race Went " affair.

The avarage replay of a race that size is around 25mb.

If by "positions" you mean the running order for each lap of the race
(if you're trying to create a lap chart for the race, for example) then
the information is in your replay.  I don't know off hand if there's a
tool to extract this data from the replay - check
http://www.theuspits.com
If you want to watch the replay with all the cars, you'll have to have
the server save the replay and get it from them.

Hi Phillip,

I host a pro spec race series as well :-D  Fortunately, since I am the host I
can see all the drivers.  The replays have 10 drivers and certainly take up 16mb
for a medium race distance with no skid marks.  Sometimes I miss part of the
first lap :-(

Xoom now has unlimited web page space.  The host could post the replay there or
just use ICQ to transfer the replay.

Jason.

Yes a lap chart is one of the things I was hoping to do. I've always
liked this way of displaying race results. You used to see it a lot in
magazines that cover motor races but not so much anemone, at least not
the mags I have access to.

I had wondered if these things were in the reply. Thanks for your
confirmation.

I've looked there, and a few else-wheres, but can't find anything.
SpyGirl mentions that they have learnt to take apart the replay files
but use that knowledge only to construct their hotlap merging program.
I'll send them an e-mail and see if they can help.

I'll have to see if the host is willing to do what's necessary his
end. I can always set my system for a DL and go do something else for
a couple of hours.

I think only the host can see all the cars in a replay and get all the
information you need
