question about directx and matrox????

by David Pruet » Tue, 17 Dec 1996 04:00:00

I just bought Road Rash, and it comes with direct x 2.0 and for some
reason, when the game goes to play the video's, the video just plays for
about a second at a time. It's like there is a delay between every 3
seconds of video. Can anyone tell me what is going on????

I have a matrox millennium running the version 3.18 driver's. At least I
think that's what IM running. (next question : how do I tell what driver's
for the millennium are currently being used???) I am using the BIOS version
1.9.

Every time I go to install the direct x, it tells me that my driver is not
supported by the direct x, and asks me if it can replace it. I always tell
it no.

The video's aren't real important with the game, but since they came with
the game, it would be cool to be able to use them.

Thanks

Dave.

Hi, it sounds like your colors too high.  Turn them down to 256 colors.

Go to the Matrox web site.  http://www.matrox.com

Get the bios update 2.2 and install. That should fix the problem
you're having with directX.

Good luck.

...and yet another response.

I have a similar problem with Mech2 and Scorched Planet video intros
and I 'think' it is caused by my soundcard not having directsound
compatible drivers.  The problem is like a stutter but is more
noticable in the sound than the video.

I have a 3 year old Tropez (classic) sound card, and Turtle Beach will
not release updated directsound drivers for it.

So, whatever, I guess I'll just have to wait or live with it.  This
might be similar to your problem.

David, go to display in control panel, MGA properties, and click the
"advanced" button for your info.

3.18 is the latest ( november ) drivers, but the BIOS is up to 2.3.
I'd really suggest getting a newer BIOS than 1.9, I have 2.2 ( aint
done the 2.3 upgrade yet ) and it seems a little more stable ??

As for the directx stuff, the millenium isnt a 3d card, its a 2d with
some limited 3d features, it doesnt have the hardware to do most
direct3D stuff, thats why they made the Mystique
