ICR2/Win95/DirectX Question

by Nick Totor » Tue, 25 Jun 1996 04:00:00

When available, I'd like to download the Win95 patch to upgrade
ICR2, but I have a few worries about the DirectX driver with the game,
specifically how it will interact with my existing Win95 drivers.
     I use a Diamond Stealth64 with 2MB VRAM and the current Win95
drivers & In Control Tools from Diamond's website. Last week, I had a
minor (major?) problem with Doom95. I downloaded the game, unzipped it
and it wouldn't play without installing the DirectX drivers. I then
proceeded to install the DirectX drivers. Problem... it completely hosed
my Diamond drivers and I had to reinstall them, even after I used
DirectX's "uninstall" utility.
Basically, does anyone know if the game is compatible with drivers
other than those with the game or whether or not Diamond will release a
driver for Win95 compatible with DirectX? I realize that's a lot to ask,
but I'm beginning to wonder whether or not it's really worth it to me to
upgrade ICR2.

I know what the problem is... you're playing a pirate version of Doom95...
Your computer can detect if it's a pirate version and it will delete your
Diamond Game at least once a month unless you go out and buy the game or
snap your Diamond board in half, that should solve everything... But I'm
not responsible for anything you do.... just a suggestion

     All I wanted was a little info, not a smart-ass response. I wasn't
aware of the game being "pirated" or not, however it is shareware
version (a little over 3 megs) from The Software Zone. I'm more
concerned about the DirectX driver and really could care less about
Doom. If anyone has anything of value to contribute I'd appreciate it.

The Doom95 shareware came with very early DirectX drivers.  You might want to
download the Subspace game (formally called Sniper) by *** Interactive.  It
comes with the final version of DirectX2, which may help with your problems.
You can get it from: http://www.racesimcentral.net/

After it installs, you can just delete the game and keep the newly installed
drivers.

I hope this is of some help.
