Win98 Directx Question

by Guy Leac » Thu, 02 Jul 1998 04:00:00

I am wondering if the brave people who have upgraded to Win98 can tell
me if the game contoller segment of directx is
improved over the current version.
i.e can you now calibrate more than 1 joystick at a time?
does win98 remeber your calibration for each controller?
Thanks

It has not changed.  DirectX6 will upgrade Win95 and Win98 when it comes
out.

You don't need to be brave, Win98 can be configured to very similar to
Win95. I still don't see major bugs yet. Actually, it is quite stable.
You may even wonder why you pay so much and get something that similar.

No kidding...it is not an "upgrade" since you lose fax, the ability to do
unattended backups and 99% of what you gain is available for free through
the IE4 desktop update.  Unless you have a very new mainboard with full USB
support (and you actually need that, right?) or you are absolutely desperate
to get FAT32 (and you don't already have it with Win95 OSR2), forget Win98.
It does not boot faster, things don't run faster or better than under a
properly set-up OSR2 with the IE4 desktop update installed.

Marc.
