Indy Car II doesn't like Win98 directX?

Did anyone else notice this?
With the directX option turned on the display eventually stutters and dies,
but the sounds still work.
All this worked AOK on 95.
Does anyone know of any fix?

No I have not installed DirectX 6 yet.

LOL, blow away 98, and reinstall 95.
