Are you kidding?!?  I only get 37 fps with my Athlon 1.2, 384MB ram, and V5.
Got a lot of stuff shut off, too.  Damn...

On my own, practicing at WG, I get around 60-75 FPS in 800x600 Eldred,
that's with a 1.4 and a V5, I hate to turn down the details too much so
I went with the 8x6 resolution instead

In last night's Dega race I had anything between 35 and 55 FPS, and even
the smoke didn't affect me too badly, and I had plenty of opp to notice
:-)

Interesting,
The patch really crippled my framerates in D3D.
My league race Monday night prior to the patch I was getting 45-60 fps at
Dega, after the patch racing Saturday at the same track I was pretty much
locked on 37 fps, with little fluctuation. And no, vsynch is still off.
I would sure be interested to hear what was done in the patch to cause such
a reduction in performance in D3D, as I prefer running in it anyways.
Guess I should try Open GL now to see what kind of performance I get with
it.
My system is an Athlon XP1600+
GeForce 3 Ti200
512 mb pc2100 ddr ram.

And this is running only 10 cars ahead, 4 behind, and most settings on about
medium.

There has to be something wrong with my system.  I was getting 37 fps at
1024x768(D3D).
Detail levels: low/medium/minimal/low.  Drawing distance 32%, opponents drawn
23/8, NO quality effects, smoke on, other on.
I changed it to OpenGL, and it dropped to 20 fps.
I changed it to 800 by 600(d3d), and got about 75 fps.  Same detail levels as
before(low, minimal, etc.).  Others with 'lesser' systems seem to be able to
run MANY more details than I can.  This sucks...

Aside from our vid cards starting to show their age ? :-)

Naa, I'd say that's pretty much spot on for the V5 Eldred, I've
benchmarked my system several times on various stuff, and it seems to be
in the neighborhood of what I ought to be seeing

I've been very happy with mine, all 3 of them :-), but for my main
*** PC I think it's time we parted, ATI Radeon 8500LE is on
(back)order, the 128 MB version

Having said that though, I'm fairly new to NR2002, so I can't say off
the top of my head how much my settings differ from yours, think I stuck
most of it at medium, and minimal details in the mirror

That sure sounds like vsynch is on.  I know you said it was off, but I
have often seen games and drivers that had bugs that prevented vsynch
from being enabled/disabled regardless of what you had it set at.  What
is your screen refresh rate?  If it's 75, I would bet that there is a
bug somewhere that is forcing it on.  If not, then I have no idea.

I think the patch has somehow disabled being able to set vsynch off, even
though it shows as off. There is a line drawn through the word vsync, where
it never was before. My refresh rate is at 85.
I am convinced vsync is now on permanently, as I only get 37 fps on the
track in testing also.

I run in 1024x 768 with everything on and graphics  at 50% or above. 32 cars
20 ahead 10 behind.
I get 55-70 fps by myself, and at the back of the pack at dega im at 37 fps.
i must've got a real good p4

Are you SURE you've disabled V-sync?  If you haven't already, get the
coolbits registry hack to show the V-sync option in the "More D3D..."
section of Nvidia's D3D display properties (by default its not there
like it is in OpenGL).  Here's one location to get it:
http://www.tweakmax.com/files/coolbits.zip  I believe the game no longer
automatically disables v-sync for D3D (it's never done it for OpenGL),
and I see little to no difference in D3D framerates between the original
and patched rend_d3d.dll when I've forced V-sync to be disabled in the
drivers.

That said, unless you really need to ALT-TAB you'd be better off using
OpenGL, both visually and performance-wise (assuming V-sync is also off)
on an Nvidia card.
