Actually - thats convinced me that 36fps is better than I thought :P

It still gives me a headache now - but never did when I drove GPL all the
time

Oh, another "more fps is better" thread!

You do realize that, even when you've <insert insane amount of fps
here>, if only ONE gap between 2 frames is, for example, 0.05 seconds,
it will feel like 20 fps?

36 FPS is too much.  FPS should be distributed equally.  Is it right to
have one game with 60 FPS while another struggles along at 25?  Did you
know that 10% of the driving games use 90% of the FPS?  I propose that
we redistribute FPS equally to all games, regardless of platform and
type of game (arcade, sim, flying driving, etc).  Until all games have
an equal amount of FPS, the games industry will continue to suffer.

Hehe, you've kicked Remco off on his frame consistancy rant again :P

Framerate requirements vary with different types of games. FPS need
the most as the whole screen can change rapidly with mouse movements,
third person games need a much lower framerate, and with driving games
your eyes tend to concentrate on the same spot and the screen only
changes gradually as you go around a track, so such a high framerate
is not essential. It only becomes a major issue in driving games where
the wheel is only polled once per frame.

I would have thought frame consistency was a given.

Be careful about setting your minimum frame rate too high -- if you set the
minimum frame too close to the maximum frame rate, you might experience
reduced control responsiveness. This could be the result of the processor
polling the joystick less frequently as it dedicates more effort to keeping
the frame rate unnecessarily high.

If i remember correctly my siences course, its because eye dont "poll"
pictures at 25fps, but the retina has a persistence of 25fps, that's
mean that during 1/25 the pictures form the world pile up on the
retina.

SO ... if u move a sqaure at 25fps and pass it by your eye for 1
second, you will pile up only 1 picture of the square ate the same
place.

With a 60fps square u'll pile up 3 different position on the retina,

With infinite fps u'll pile up ... lots ( not infinite ) of position
on the retina, a sort of strip..

Those information are translated by your brain as a smoth motion.

Hope i'm clear with my frenchy english :)))
