I think I've got you ALL beat -- I had a $19.99 item to return to CompUSA
and it was beyond their 15-day return period, so I couldn't get a cash
refund. They were gracious enough to let me exchange it for a
similarly-priced item, so I picked up "Swamp Buggy Racing" from Wizard
Works. Heck, I've seen Swamp Buggies on Speedvision, and I really wanted to
help encourage Wizard Works to produce more great racing games like Dirt
Track Racing, so I picked up Swamp Buggy Racing -- and BOY is it BUGGY! The
graphics are REALLY blocky (but fast), the lighting is pretty neat, but the
gameplay is, uh, limited, and there are some problems with non-Soundblaster
(Creative Labs) sound cards, so this rinky-dink little game locks up my
system EVERY time, and there's no real fix short of a new sound card (to
which I say NO WAY, not for this game!).
Beyond the lockups, though, Swamp Buggy Racing actually has LESS going for
it than the Dirt Track Racing DEMO. Very disappointing, considering how
promising it looks. I'd love to see more driving/racing stuff from Daylight
Productions (the developer) AND from Wizard Works, but I hope they both put
more work into it in the future.
