There was a game released in Australia a few years ago called "Touring Car
Challenge". What a piece of crap.

: The worst racing game I have bought was Test Drive 4x4!  Oh this
: looks good I thought!  Trying to manouvre a Landy through mud
: and over rocks (seeing as I have experiance of 4x4 off-road
: driving), quite a challenge I thought!  Well was i dissapointed
: or what?  The real sad thing is that I bought it the same day as
: GPL, really spoilt the occasion:(

Well, I'm going to reach wayyyy back to 1992.  After two years of wringing
out hot laps on the original Accolade Grand Prix (in hindsight a ***
game as well, but the sim world was in its infancy) I gladly plunked down
my hard-earned cash for their 1992 version.  It was dismal.  Even with
nothing to compar it to it was bad.  Then I bought Crammond's little gem
about three months later, and the Accolade box realllly started to look
sad.  Since then I have been a more selective shopper (and demos have
helped), so I have not been disappointed by a purchase since then.

That reminds me of when I was going to buy an F1 game with Nigel
Mansell's name in the title, but changed my mind and went for F1GP
instead :-) I never found out what the Mansell game was like, and
I don't recall ever seeing it mentioned here - can anyone tell me
what they thought of it?

I got that one. It's a PC port of the Amiga game "Vroom". Not that bad, but
you did well to get F1GP instead.

I used to have "Nigel Mansell's World Championship" for the Gameboy. It
wasn't all that bad, in fact, except for some backmarkers that made
Phillippe Alliot look co-operative, a really *** tune, and a completely
ridiculous blurb on the box. IIRC it went something like this:

Hold on to your engines and pour on the coal as you hit the track with
<yellow italics> the greatest name in World Championship racing, Nigel
Mansell. </yellow italics> You're in control. You've got the machine. But
can you handle it? Try rough weather, a mean track and competition that
won't quit.
[and so on and so forth]

I think there were at least two of those. One very early on the Amiga,
and another one sometime later.

The first one was no more than a spiced up Pole Position (some 8 years
later, imagine!  :-)  )

"Lotus: The ultimate challange" by Gremlin is pretty Dire!

I got it on a free cd (about three years ago?) that came with 7 games,
the above was one of the titles, absolute ***in every area, sound,
graphics, handling.

My personal worst game has to be Official F1. Terrible gameplay, I hate the
unlogical menus, graphics are crap. The only thing I loved was the
helicopter flight over the track. I spent most of the time I 'played' the
game in that chopper.

That's cos it's incredibly ancient. Was that one of those hopeless Special

Don't go knocking Big Red Racing.  Still my favorite Arcade Racing
_Game_.  Also a great way to blow 10 minutes.

Please don't knock off the most under-estimated arcade game of the last

I had a title for the amstrad CPC464 called Nigel Mansell's Grand Prix.
It wasn't bad for it's day. I got it around 1988. It had variable turbo
boost and you had to balance boost against fuel consumption to go the full
distance. You also had the option to pit for tyres or risk a blowout if you
stayed out.

All in all it was a good effort. shame about the cassette tapes taking about
10 minutes to load each track <G>
