GPL and MS SW Wheel Problem

Set up my buddy's system with XP Pro and set up Nascar 4 with no problems on
his MS Sidewinder wheel (non-ff), but when I set up GPL it recognized all the
buttons and pedals except the steering.  I of course kept trying to assign the
wheel to the steer assignment ("now turn left", etc.), but it just can't see
the sterring part of the wheel.  I uninstalled the wheel and reinstalled, but
still no dice.  Anyone have any ideas?  

He has a 900mhz TB, MSI mobo w/256 ram, and Geforce 2 MX.  It also has the
sidewinder menu program installed to and fiddled with it too.  It has the 1.2
patch and D3D patch installed.

I had to uninstall the sidewinder software to get mine to work.  Try that.
XP has all the necessary drivers.
