For anyone still left doubting the accuracy of GP2 as a simulation , I
quote from the UK Sunday Express 25/8

" Jacques Villeneuve outqualified Damon Hill in Belgium , then
admitted he owed his pole position to a child's computer game .

The Williams-Renault star confessed he has been playing Microprose's
new GP2 Grand Prix simulator between races .

It sounds childish and stupid I know , but the game is fairly close to
the real thing and gives a good idea of what corners come next . Thats
very useful , said Villeneuve .

I got pole here but  I could only manage 18th on the grid in the game!
"
Not a bad endor***t for Crammond's masterpiece .

How is this any different then when Nascar drivers have admitted to useing
Nascar Racing? There was one driver that on his way to Phonix for a truck
race played on the plane. Then the time that Jeff Gordon played Hawaii.
Then when Kenny Wallace said it was not as good as the Daytona USA game
:-(  And Bobby Labonte and ..... You get my point. I would bet that lots
of drivers play these sims and some might even pick up something from
them. I mean if you only have a day to prctice then qualify wouldn't you
like to learn the course by racing it for a week on the puter?

What about an age-survey? I think you would pretty surely top the list. What
does your grandson say about the game?  ;-)

Abraham is closing in.....

Well, qualitatively it isn't so different, and we already knew that
some Indycar drivers also have used ICR2. But this is the first time
one can in some sense directly attribute some aspect of a top drivers
success to a video game. I mean, everyone was surprised that JV could
take pole at Spa, and that he could do so well (win) at such a
difficult, quirky circuit as Hungary's. He seems to have taken a
little leap in his standings since starting to play GP2!

Also, this is not NASCAR or IndyCar: this is old uptight,
self-absorbed F1. It is, event for event, the most watched sport in
the world (only certain soccer matches can compete), one *billion*
people watch every F1 race, a team can cost up to $100 million to fund
for one year, racers can get paid up to $25 million a year for their
expected performance (Shumacher probably will get $30 million next
year). The idea that a racer can get an edge on the competition by
using an off-the-shelf $50 game, as if it is some sort of high-powered
dedicated simulator, must be sort of... a shock to many in the F1
world.

And if MicroProse plays the PR right, they could sell a million copies
of GP2 pretty quickly using quotes like this.

Point taken.
