RC2K: Guru meditation?????

WTF is this guru meditation error? I just bought the RC2k CD-ROM and put
into my cdrom drive and I get this weird guru meditation error. Great
game if even the installer crashes instantly. NOT!

Has anyone else seen this happen and solved it? I have a PII 350, 128Mb
RAM and a voodoo1 running under W98 for RC2k.

I especially love the fact that the manual referes to the faq at
www.rallychampionship.co.uk and the only faq found there is about RC99!
How useful can that be? Great first impression MF.

Thanks for any help,
Johan.

Ok, that's the first problem solved. You have to set your desktop to
16bpp to be able to launch the installer. Does that make sense? I think
not.

On with the second problem. The next messagebox states that I do NOT
have an 8MB 2d/3d video card. Well, I have both an 8MB 2D card and an
8MB 3d card, so what is their problem? Anyway, I believe I have seen a
post about this before, so I'll just keep on searching. It better be
worth it, because I'm already fed up with this game. I wonder what the
next messagebox will say?

Just wonderfull! I just found that post I mentioned in my previous mail,
but there were no replies to it. :-(

Any suggestions? I'm getting desperate here. =:-{

Thanks,
Johan.

Danny Hartely (from MF) has posted a workaround on our RC2k Forums at
http://forums.simracingnews.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/000939.html maybe that'll
help?

I don't own RC2K, but "guru meditation" error seems to be a reference to the
old Amiga platform.  When an Amiga program would crash due to a program error,
they would display "guru meditation" and then the error number.  Similar to a
General Protection Fault in Windows or a Segmentation Violation in UNIX.
Reportedly, when the developers of the Amiga OS ran into a *** bug they would
sit on a Bongo Board and "meditate" on the problem.  Why this is in a Windows
game, I have no idea.

Sorry that this does nothing to help you.

I'm pretty sure I had set it to 16bpp when I installed RC2k and also had the
crash!

Which led to one of the best program names of all time, for a utility
that banished these errors and produced more friendly messages ... it
was called GOMF (Get Outta My Face!).

Hey!!  That error was a MAJOR problem for the previous
game too!   Might check the old games' FAQ.  (International Rally Champ.)
