Based on your post it sounds like a 3d rendering problem (menu's work fine
crashes the minute 3d is rendered). This _could_ be caused either by
openGL.dll not being found OR the .ini file trying to load 3dfx.dll(?)
first. First thing, make sure openGL.dll is in sierra/gpl directory, then
edit .ini file to make openGL.dll the last renderer used (also, delete the
3dfx.dll(?) renderer). If this doesn't work: What exact system do you have
and what software are you running. My suggestion would be to disable your
sound card (in control panels/system/...) and see if that is the problem. If
the sound card is not the problem, try any nic cards you might have, etc.
Then, try the video card: uninstall your video card, make sure there are no
old drivers (add/remove programs and look for old video software then check
registry for voodoo/tnt/ati etc. and remove them--be careful with registry
changes if you don't know what you are doing find someone who does also back
up your registry before making any changes). Set computer on vga mode reboot
and reinstall the latest drivers from nvidia. Finally, uninstall GPL and
then reinstall full install, upgrade to patch 1.2 (make sure you get patch
from reputable site) and then add openGL patch. Then check the openGL
settings in the device driver (settings/advanced/...) and make sure block
transfer mode is selected and none of the other boxes are checked (you might
try experimenting here). Also, download a starup manager (like the one for
ZDBench99) and disable all startup programs. If it is possible to get GPL
running with a barebones setup you can then add programs until you find the
killer one. Again, the first time you run GPL edit the .ini file to tell GPL
that the last renderer used was openGL.dll and make sure that openGL.dll is
in the right directory(i think this is in the readme.) I don't know what
you've tried so my apologies if you've gone through this troubleshooting
already.
Best of luck.
I am running at 36 fps (except at race startup) at 1024x768 with a geforce
