TSW owners: upgrading to SPEC Pots? (was ECCI vs. TSW)

TSW owners: upgrading to SPEC Pots? (was ECCI vs. TSW)

by Dave Ma » Fri, 16 Apr 1999 04:00:00

Any TSW or TSW2 owners who've upgraded from the standard RS pots to
the SPEC pots care to comment on any improvements?  Was it worth the
money or hassle?  I've replaced several RS pots for the steering
shaft, but my pedal pots are still the originals (bought the wheel in
September '97).

I'd like to get pots in the wheel/pedal units that are going to last
longer than the RS pots.  I don't really enjoy doinking around with
pots, and am especially leery of changing the pedal pots because it
looks like a much more difficult job to get it right, compared to the
simple job of changing the steering pot.

Also, Eric Cote, you are recommending the 2W 100 Kohms Cermet pots as
an upgrade.  Is this because of cost vs. the SPEC pots, or better
availability, or something else?

TIA,

Dave

The Spec pots TSW uses are Spectrol model 157 50k linear taper.Mouser
Electronics (www.mouser.com) has them for $12.80 each in minimum 5
quantity(4 or less cost is $19.97 each). These are conductive plastic
pots, the best choice for controllers,do not use cermet element pots.

Hi Dave , I have just ordered spec pots from Thomas , they should be here
any day , I'll let you know on that , on changing pedal pots , it's just
as easy as the steering pot , have no fear , just take notice of the
position of the shaft if your not using the specs.
Happy Motoring !!
Jeff

Dave,

get the conductive plastic element type, fully sealed SPEC pots offered by
Thomas Enterprises. Trust me, you will not regret a decision in favour of this
good quality unit. In fact, the "Specs" make the term 'wear' more or less
relative....
Even if there should exist an alleged pot out there that is even 'better' (which
i doubt), there would be -still- no reason not to mount this beauty. A technical
edge can be very amazing at times.
