Is a decent F1 sim really that much to ask.

A lot of us want an F1 sim that has accurate handling, plenty of setup
options, 3D card support, IPX single race and championship multiplayer
support, modem support with no delay and slowdown, support for a wide
range of controllers and steering wheels, (I took Destruction Derby 2
back because my T2 wouldn't work properly with it and the brake and
accelerate were digital only - if they can't support the most popular
wheel out there then what hope is there), good replays, choice of
driving views including***pit, and finally good AI.

GP2 goes most of the way but fails as we all know overall. F1
(Psygnosis) looks to be great but as yet no info on modem support, a
***pit view or more setup options.

If GP2 were given a patch or re-release with all these things then I'm
sure it would sell at least 25% of its original total for something like
10% of the original development effort. I hope Microprose post huge
losses next year but I'm sure Falcon 4 will rescue them. One descent
game a year guys! Well done, your mothers must be proud.

With the amount of free feedback available on these newsgroups instead
of expensive market research you would think that these game ruining
features would not exist. I for one am unable to set up my sytem with my
T2 in the same room as my friends (most people I race with are between
15 and 200 miles away) so modem is at least a way to race a human. A
friend of mine and I raced a season over the modem in GP2 (P200 & P166
all texures off apart from road!!) and had a great time chasing each
other down the the last race.

As for Net play I can get an awfully playable game of Descent 2 if I
connect with friends in the UK and use a UK server. I cannot tell any
difference between this and a 28800 connection.

Sorry to winge but this industry is just so strange. How many industries
could get away with copy like this "Forget Virtual reality, this is the
real deal." Now if and when VR does arrive I'll be pissed if it runs at
12fps with sky on on the fastest hardware.
