Does anyone notice any difference checked or unchecked in D3d?  I sure don't
see much different, and it costs me about 20fps.  If I knew what it is
supposed to do maybe I can see the change.  Although now that I know the fps
hit I doubt Ill check it anyway.

You might have to use 32bit color to see the diff.  What type of video
card do you have?

9700Pro.  Tried about every res/color combo but settled on 16x12x32 2xAA
2xAnis.

I think it really only shows up with the sun peaking in and out of the
clouds.  Not that good effect for the frame rate hit you have to take.   Run
a Michigan and as you go down the back straight, you will see it brighten up
or go dark pretty quickly.

I have noticed that effect.  Its more of a flashing than a smooth transition
from light to dark though.  I thought it was an anomaly not a "feature"
hehe..  Definitely not worth 20fps :)

Thx

Yep.  My thought as well.  It flashes in too quick.  But I guess there were
bigger issues to fix instead of how the sun went in and out of the clouds.
:>   I have it cut off and don't miss it.

Here's what specular highlighting is.  It's easier to see the
difference once you've been given an example:

It's subtle enough that I wouldn't worry about it if it's causing a
huge framerate hit.
