Hardware advice please

by Karl Zose » Thu, 18 Jan 2001 18:51:19

I am going to upgrade:
My main intrests are GPL, GP3, other racing games and Delta Force, Unreal,
..well lots of games.
But: I also use my system for harddisk audio recording.

I will buy an Intel P3 - 800 (overclockable to 960 with ease)
Motherboard: ASUS CUVX or ASUS CUSL2 .. whats best for *** and
multimedia?? What the difference in performance between the chipsets?
Videoboard: i think Geforce 2 GTS is the best: but is it worth the price
difference?
Are there any good Geforce cards with 2 monitor outputs?
should I buy a GEFORCE 2MX card?

Thanks

Karl
I did some comparisons recently of an MX card compared to a Voodoo 3
3000 (I bought the MX to replace the V3). In all the car sims that I tested,
except for the N4 demo, the V3 was as fast or faster than the MX, and I
found the picture quality better on the V3. Needless to say, I returned the
MX card. I think you would be happier with a Geforce GTS or (dare I say it?)
a V5.
I am now going to buy a V5, as I am sure it will run GPL better than
anything else, and that's all that REALLY matters - isn't it?  ;-)
                                             Cheers..
                                             Phillip....
