There are alot of things that come into play with Tire Wear. Temperature,
wind, drafting.. and just overall driving style. Maybe you are turning the
wheel too hard to the left as you enter the turn and are scrubbing the
tires.. shrug, hard to say without watching you drive or being there.
The fast setup is a very shaky setup at Daytona.. it is hard to keep on the
bottom of the track. If you are forcing it to stay on the bottom of the
track, you are probably wearing down your tires more than you should.
Try stabalizing the setup so that you do not have to force it to stay on the
bottom, but so that it wants to stay there. You will then get better tire
wear.
N4 is VERY realistic when it comes to these things. You now actually have
to work with setups like the Big Boys do in Nascar to get the car to handle
the way you want.

Did you watch the Daytona 500? That's not too far removed from the point
where Rusty Wallace blew his right front, if memory serves. Setups on most
tracks are a tradeoff. Lots of setups that let you take the turns like a
dream eat the hell out of your *** just like you describe, both in real
life and in the sim.

What line are you taking (low, mid, high) on average, and did you make
any adjustments to the "FAST" setup?
Thanks in advance
Cheers
