HELP!!! N4: Crashing!! After Patch Installed...:o(

by Thom j » Mon, 30 Apr 2001 07:06:57

Hello RAS'ers,
Well for some strange reason my Nascar 4 online locks up in races
from anywhere to 1/2-hr to 2-hrs. I never had a lock'up before the
patch and I have no idea why it *just* started since last nite?
I have *not!!* loaded, changed nor added anything to my system
since I installed the patch & this lock'up just started. It freezes my
screen & everything in the middle it basically states: {not an exact
quote but} Nascar 4 has commited an illegal error blah blah blah
if continues contact the program vender blah blah blah!!
Please HELP!!! TIA.. A Confused {nothing new here} Thom_j.
Cheers...

60s look like the 50s".. { Huey Walker..;0).}

Sorry your having a problem. I don't have the problem but if you want to try
a few things. Try some of these. If your overclocking the vid card try
lowering it a click or two. Same for the processor. Or try cas3 stepping. If
not overclocking make sure you have enough swap-file space on your
harddrive. That your swap-file is set large enough. It could also be heat
buildup in your PC case...try pulling the cover to see if the problems go
away. Good-luck.

I'm assuming by cas3 he's referring to a setting in your BIOS that governs
the speed of your memory.  If you have it set to cas 2 and your memory can't
handle that, backing it down to cas3 will sometimes improve the stability of
a system.  (Now I hope I didn't get that backwards...)
I think your swap file is tooooo big...but what do I know.  Make sure you
run enditall, a nice utility that closes down background programs, and that
might help.
good luck

Ok Dave Thanx for the info! I knew the cas3 had to do something with
my 'cache memory' but I didn't know where it was. Meaning Windows,
DOS or the Bios? Since you think my 'swap' might be too large what is
a better size?? I remember {was it John Bodin or Don Burnette?} who
had a great setup for OpenGL setting + re'setting the memory resourse
and some settings within the Bios.. Sorry guyz I forget who posted the
fantastic info!?? And it did work for me!! Again thanx for the info and
if any others have comments please post them.. Tia... Thom_j.
