I won't upgrade my computer unless I think GPL is worth it.

What is the minimum required before you start enjoying it?  I don't
care for great graphics... I just want to enjoy racing.

Does it support SB64PCI?

(my computers are a P150 and a C166)

I've run it with one.  It ran fine on my P200mmx with a Voodoo1 card.  Great
sim.  Might be okay with the P150.

Think about this.....

Should you spend several hundred, if not thousands of dollars to upgrade to
a "state of the art" machine, that may/will be obsolete in 6 months, in
order to play a $40 game?

Then again..... If you do, you'll hopefully be able to play all the other
$40 games that might come out in the next year and 1/2 without having to ask
the question again.

Or......

Keep what'cha got, and play games that were "state of the art" a year ago,
which should with a decent 3d card, run like a champ on your current system
(full graphics, etc... and max frame rates for the games)

No matter how good a game might look/sound today, if it's not easily
playable, if it doesn't have decent fps, if you have to turn off 1/2 the
dang options just to play it, then who cares what the person who reviewed it
says...

That same individual, most likely didn't shell out dime, one.... In order to
give it a good/great review in the various magazines.

They were most likely given a "state of the art" system , and were "given"
the game for free in order to do the review.....

So.... Should you shell out the big bucks just to play a game like GPL with
decent frame rate and graphics turned on ???

I can only answer with the old saying..... Money buys speed..... How fast do
you want to spend?!?!?!?

Probably. The ONLY time you should ever buy hardware is when it allows
you to run software you wouldn't otherwise be able to run. That's what
hardware is FOR.

Absolutely. My GPL upgrade came easily because I'd already saved up for when Su27 v2
was supposed to come out earlier this year. I had the money ready, but no software worth
parting with it for.... until GPL.

Don't forget that there is a long way between able to run and able to
run smooth!

Anyway, you didn't mention the presence of a 3d accelerator. If you
don't have hardware 3dfx, rendition or openGL support, you won't be able
to run it smooth.

I know it seems insane to dump all of this money into hardware just
for one game,,, but, keep in mind that lately prices on just about
everything are at an incredible low.
If you're living on the edge like my man John here you can sucessfully
overclock and be running at 400-450 (or 500 if you buy the PII 333, I
think..) at a total cost of about $400-$50.
Voodoo II cards, even the supercool ones from Canopus, are dirt cheap.
Money is hard to come by, I know, but if you're going to upgrade do
some serious net shopping first and you might be suprised by the deals
out there.
Here's some links for what it's worth:

http://www.step-thermodynamics.com/    (they'll sell hardware at Cost
if you buy one of their cooling deals..)

http://www.canopuscorp.com/factorystore/factorystore.htm
(this is the refurbished, warranty guaranteed area of Canopus)

http://www.tomshardware.com/
(the best starting point for overclocking info)

http://www.mushkin.com/cgi-bin/mushkin.storefront
(inexpensive hardware..)
there's lots more out there as well......................

Thanks to GPL I've had to do quite a bit of research on souping up my
'puter... best of luck!
