197 is pretty fast for Dega already, assuming of course you're talking
about lap speeds and not top speeds on the back stretch.

197 is very fast at Dega.I have a 198.3xx and that took a hell of alot
of laps to get that.

Try a taller 4th gear...like 3.40 or 3.50.  Also, change your camber to
+.10 for RF and -1.60 for LF.

You mean Max speed or  average speed? I am no star in NASCAR sims, but
even I routinely get up-to/over 204 coming down the back straight at
Dega, and that is with the "Ace" setup with 5 degrees  wheel-lock.

This amounts to something like a 48.5xxx second lap, which is 4
*seconds* slower than the record listed in the program.

BTW, to Jim at Papy (if you read here)- On PSX, I really *do* have
trouble getting over 200 on the back straight at Dega. Why would that
be?

In simulation mode, if you are using a digital controller (ie the
stock PSX one), that's the problem right there in all likelyhood.

In arcade mode, we took the restrictor plate off at Tally, so I'm
guessing you have no trouble exceeding 200 on the back straight, even
blindfolded... :-)

PS: If you are using analog, and still can't crack 200, let me know
and I'll go down and try it sometime. (It's been a while since I've
seriously sat down to a sim mode race on the PSX. I usually just blast
around in arcade mode during some half hour when there's only lame TV,
and no new articles in rec.auto.sim...)

Jon,

The record lap for Taladega listed in Nascar I and II was set by Bill
Elliott before NASCAR mandated restrictor plates at the track.

Are we talking top speed or lap speed? Full tank? temp?

Well in my case it's average speed at 70 degrees and A1 at 101

Besides, we're talking with a draft, right?  197 is pretty good.
