try using the "ace" setup, but make the gears taller by .3

That is what I use, and it works wonders.

I'm not real great at setting up a car either.  It is possible to win Tally at
100%  strength setting with the ACE setup.  I've managed to do it a few times.
It seems a lot has to do (just as in the real race) being in the right place at
the right time.  That may involve a little patience.  For instance letting one
car pass you so you can then use the bump draft to catch a group of cars.
You should also go to one of the web pages like  (www.theuspits.com) and
download the new artificial inteligence patches for tally and some of the other
tracks.  They really make it interesting!  Closer, more realistic racing.  Well
hope this helps a little at least.  Find that "perfect line" and hold it!  ;)

I used the ace setup until I switched from a sidewinder 3d to a
wheel/pedals.  Now if I use the ace setup, the engine blows on the third lap
on the back stretch.  So, I had to bump up the gears.  Since I bumped up the
gears, I got more top end, resulting in a push through the middle of the
turns.  So now I have to figure out a way to loosen the car up a little
more.  Camber?  Wedge?  What should I do??

What I also noticed is to have a "really" competitive race at 'dega, I have
to run the opponents at 116%. Strange, huh?  My lap times aren't that hot
either, only high 47s- low 48s.  I guess I just need to tweak my
taladega.txt file...

I usually find that adjusting the rear weight is the best approach to
fixing a tight car in the middle of the turns.  You might even aim for a
little too loose and then tighten it up a hair with the cross-weight.
At other tracks than Talladega you may also want to lower the front tire
pressure a little.

I dare you to download the CCG NASCAR2 AI Project's latest Talladega AI
enhancements and race at an opponents setting of 116%.  This latest AI
is not only lap after lap of side-by-side drafting trains, but they are
QUICK!  Check it out at http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/6746/

I've noticed that if you install the cars from IWCCCARS, while they might
look good, the guys are changing the settings so that they turn the lap
times they did in the actual race.  More realistic, but it means you can
really smoke them at places like talledega.  By the way, only use wedge as
a last resort.  You want to save this settings as an adjustment for the
actual race, otherwise keep it as neutral as possible.  Try to get the push
out with some other method, such as shifting the weight around.  Camber
settings will more than likely throw off your tire temps too much,
depending on the track.
