N2, Talladega Question

by Dave » Wed, 22 Apr 1998 04:00:00

I was wondering if the record lap speed shown in N2 was done without a
restrictor plate.  I would
also like to know what kind of lap speeds you guys are doing with restrictor
plates.  The best I can manage is around 193mph  or so.

Thanks

Hi Dave...

Yes, the 212 MPH Bill Elliot record was before restrictor plates. As for
what is a "typical" restrictor speed at Tally for solo simmers... seems
like most can hit the 194 range (without drafting), a few can go higher,
but I suspect there has been a significant amount of "tweaking the file
numbers" to post anything much higher than 195 MPH.  Key is in gearing,
60 PSI tire pressure, and driving very, very, smooth. Starting rather
high in, and driving smoothly to the bottom of the curves... following a
loooow line (next to the white line) around all the turns then drifting
smoothly out of them. You do not want any tire sqeaking at all. Steer
the car as if you're on ice. As for a car set up, if you  don't like to
fiddle excessively with setups, then simply use the "Ace" setup, and
change top gear until you flicker the red line going into Turn 3 at the
end of the back straight (once up to speed, i.e. 4 to 7 laps). Lower the
wheel lock down to about 6-8 degrees (for aid smoothness) and practice
being smoooooth.

Have Fun...

Considering the 70degree no wind situation, most of the good NROS drivers
are able to get 195.5XX mph in qualification.

As for racing.... Some drivers can do around 196.xxx mph laps without any
drafting help, and with the draft it averages around 197.5-198mph.  With
temperature and wind changes, speeds (always non-restrictor racing) can go
easily higher than 200mph in average.

Practice, practice, practice... That's all. There is tons of information and
help about getting fast in Nascar2.

I sure would like to know what your setup was.  My best top speed (not
drafting) has only been 203 and best limited number of consistant laps
when my driving was almost perfect(according to my limited talents) was
in the neighborhood of 194.24 and that was with 80 degree wx and 8mph SW
wind. My best race laps have been in the 193's when traffic would allow.
!!!! 203 LAPS--I WOULD NEED NITROS or ROCKET ASSISTS without tweeking
the sim program!!!!!!!!!

The best I'm consistently getting at an "unmodified" NR2 Talladega
track - driving offline, alone on the track, and using random weather
is 193's.  I'm certainly no "pro" at NR2 or Talladega though.

My appoligies RPM--I misread your post- I thought you were saying you
were averaging 203 with restrictor plates.  Apparently I need lessons in
reading also.

On TEN, you have to be able to run 195 in qual at 70 degree to be
competitive

I can get 194's in the race, but 193 is the best in qualifying.

if you run without the ristrictor plate, you should be running about 212.

I would say he gets around 206.758 ;-)
And he can consistently run 202-204 while in traffic.

<g> The guy thinks he is the best driver in the world... Most of the good
people on the NROS that I know and tried can do 207+ laps without the
restrictor plate.
