The way I got through this one was to stop trying to cut the corners so
closely. My problem was that I was driving AT the pylon with the intent of
turning sharply around it, thinking that would be quickest. Instead, once I
got the 'course' mapped out in my head, I made wider sweeps around the
cones, exiting closer to them and entering much wider. These somewhat
'straightened' corners allowed me to sustain more speed and finish that
stage.

Stephen
daxe has it pretty much summed up below (or above, depending on where this post
shows up..)
I also found it *quite* helpful to actually slow down a little so I could keep
my grip in turns.
Try this:
Sketch the layout of the cones, then pretend they are the inside apexes of the
turns (which they are..) Then sketch the "groove" or ideal line... then try to
drive it! This literally knocked 4 seconds off my third attempt at the skidpad
cone challenge where you drive straight, then slalom left, then go up and back
four times..
good luck!
Andrew
PS.. yes, it's ***ing.
PPS.
1) Winning race.
2) Wife walks in. "We got an overdue phone bill again! We paid this, they
screwed up again! Will you call them from work tomorrow? Also, the table guy
didn't call back. They're ***s. I mean, when did you call them? Wednesday?
Look, I would expect it to take a day or two to call back......
3) Well, at least it's not $1 per play.
