NFS:PU Factory Driver - I'm stuck

by Michael Basde » Thu, 06 Apr 2000 04:00:00

I hope some one can help me.  In factory driver mode I can't get past
the 'rally' mission where you have to knock over all the cones in under
4 minutes.  Can some one give me some pointers on driving style or
'short cuts' to getting it all done in time?

I'm also hung up in 1978 in evolution mode...but I haven't played it
that much to complain yet!  ;0)

Thanks,
Mike

(snipped some stuff - can't help on that factory driver stuff since I just
started it)

Stuck in 1978?  Well, just pull on that powder blue swallow-collar shirt and
pop your BeeGees 8 track in your 911 Turbo and enjoy!

Personally, I'm enjoying 1975 so much I'm not even trying to advance.  That
Carrera RS and '75 911 Turbo are a lot of fun! And I can beat all takers in
the Classic Club Mountain Challenge.  :-)

The only thing I can suggest is that you get to know the course, and know
where you have to turn before the arrows tell you to. At the one where you
have to turn around after the pylon, start a 180 spin just before it and try
to spin through the pylon, so that you are already facing in the other
direction by the time you hit it. That kind of time-saving trick and just
knowing the course are the only ways to get through it. And I hate to say
it, but if you can't get through that one you'll really hate the 6:25 minute
one through the back alleys of Auvergne in a Carrera 2. Now that one took a
lot of tries. Good luck, it's worth the effort to keep going. As for
Evolution, I'm temporarily stuck in 93. I just don't seem to be able to
drive the rear-wheel drive Turbos. Took much power through too few wheels :)
Have fun,
Marc

The only suggestion I have is to take it easy.  If you go steady through the
whole course and don't spin you should be able to break the 4 minute mark.
Also, on the second cone just B4 you do a 180, start the 180 B4 you reach
the second cone and hit it just as you are turning around.  That one saves
10 seconds.

P.S.  I did it in 3:59:97 so don't listen to me =)

0.03 seconds to spare? You could have done a couple 360's on the way to the
finish line just to kill some time :)

I finally got through it.  Ends up I was just over driving the car through
some corners and not getting a good line out of them.  Once I calmed down
and just 'did' it I finished in about 3:45 without any major incidents.  Now
if I could only get out of 1975 (thought it was 78 but I was wrong) and demo
the stupid 996 for a guy!  Argh!  LOL

Congrats!  Good to see that NFS-PU helps reinforce the old adage,
"sometimes you have to go slow to go fast" -- that applies so well to
many of the Factory Driver scenarious!

Kudos to EA for being brave enough to make the latest NFS game more
"sim" than "arcade!"  Now, give me MORE Factory Driver scenarious (I
finished all the current missions 2 nights ago, and I'm now totally
dominating the Evolution mode, which is almost boring in comparison).

I don't think you're to the warehouse parts run mission yet. That'll
be the next big hurdle.
There is also a 6 minute "knock down the cone" mission that took me a
few tries to get right. Driving cleanly was the key to that one, too.

Now, off to try to ram Dieter into the guardrail so he can lose and
retire... :-)

Play with the setup of the car by lowering and stiffening it.  Also
add a couple more lbs. of pressure to the rear tires.  If that doesn't
work then buy and install the aftermarket springs, shocks and sway
bars.  If that doesn't work then buy the slicks.
