I am planning on purchasing a 3D video card. I would like any
information on what might be a good card. There seems to be some
controversy  as to which games play with which 3D vid cards. Any help
would be appreciated.

Hello Ray,

Choosing a video card is based a lot on which game/games you
want the best performance. If I was to buy a decent 3D card I
would buy a Rendition Chipset based card because I'm a
anything for Nascar chap.
Others may go for an all rounder like a VooDoo job as it may
give excellant performance for most games. But, it won't run
the Redition version of Nascar 2, on the other hand it would
run the standard Hi-res version better than a Trio 64 Virge
(which I have).
Maybe it might be worth waiting around to see if a common
standard takes off that all the software folks support. I
think 3DX and OpenGL are standards up and coming. Jolly hard
to know what to do. It wouldn't be so bad if the cards weren't
so exspensive.

Coming down in price though--you can get a Diamond Monster 3d
card for US$169-- in Seattle, Wa; I would wait till early fall
though to buy one--the next generation of 3d cards are VASTLY
improved in performance over the current Voodoo Graphics chipset cards

Starting from these few weeks, I think the industry is forgeting all other
cards except 3Dfx. Eg. I76 (So called D3D patch but supposed to work on
3Dfx),NFS2(3Dfx patch coming),MW2 Merc 3Dfx, Falcon 4 Requires a very
strong 3D card, i.e. 3Dfx.

The rendition Verite seems showing it's weakness in recent games. It's
power is simply weaker and cannot give as much fps as 3Dfx.

Take a look, future games supports D3D or 3Dfx only. Seems no more Verite
only games. I think even Sierra will support 3Dfx in the future.

What you lose in choosing 3Dfx seems to be accelerated ICR2 and N2 only.
