Don't be sorry - you're racing for REAL. The rest of us are just sitting in
front of CRTs and pretending...<g>

I don't have a problem with hosting again. Maybe I can find some SPEED by

I wouldn't really call autocross "real racing" :-P...in other news, if
you're interested in seeing what I did, I've got video's from my three runs
online. Go to http://www.beat2k.org/stu/ and right click and save as. The
WMV files are 320x200 and have some frame drops...but they're tiny as all
hell. The mpeg files are 720x480...much higher quality (almost as good as
the base files weighing in at ~400 megs!). Hope to be able to make the next
RASF1 race btw.

The object of racing is to complete a certain distance in a shorter time than
your competitors. Ok, so you're going a bit slower than Earnhardt and friends
on sunday, but what's the diff? A race against the clock is just as valid as a
race against other cars on track at the same time. If it wasn't, then Rally
races wouldn't be "real racing"...<g>

I guess the thing I don't like about autocrossing is that it is such a short
competition, and many of the skills used aren't used anywhere else. The one
thing I really learned is how to learn a course quickly. I've done a few
track days and I've learned more there then in the 2 years of autocross I've
competed in. Theres a lot more I could go into...but lets just say I can't
wait until I can afford to run in the barber dodge series. (4 years if I'm
lucky)

Time zone problems mean I can't do it.

As soon as I've built or bought some kind of***pit I'll be back for as
many races as I can make. (Not always possible due to the race clashing with
Sunday lunch at my Mum's ;) )

At Imola you pre***ly need accelleration and stopping power. You want
some download, but you don't want to be pushing big wings around like at
Hungaroring. In qualifying you can sacrifise some top speed to dowload to
get a faster laptime, but otherwise concentrate on your mechanical grap and
the ability to trash it over the curbs in the chichanes.

If you'd like a setup, let me know. I worked a bit on one last night, and
dropped my time down to 1:21. It feels very stable to me, and can be run as
a Q or race setup with a good amount fuel. The fastest lap I know of (that's
legit) is a 1:20.4, so it is a pretty quick setup IMO.

I worked on a setup last night and wings of 48/46 are fine. Can easily do
low 1:22 with those wing settings. Would be best for him to start out high,
and then drop them down a bit after some practice if he wants. I am using
46/44 on a setup that enables me to do a 1:21. Still needs to be tweaked a
bit, but you can definitely run high wings at this track and still be fast.
Some curbs can be used, but others should definitely be avoided.
Like all the tracks in this sim, a driver needs to be ultra precise and find
the perfect line lap after lap in order to be fast. There isn't a better sim
(ever) at helping a sim driver to hone their road course racing skills.
Everything else seems very slow and like a Sunday drive compared to these F1
cars. You have to place the wheels of these rockets literally within inches
of the perfect line, combined with precise throttle control, or your lap
will suffer.
*Exactly* like the real F1 drivers.
