Pentium-MMX Board with fast DMA?

According to ASUS it should work with the TVP4, but I'm not sure how
well.  You're likely find it difficult to find a VX board that gives
stellar DMA performance, as it's an inferior chipset whose only real
benefit is the ability to use SDRAM.

BTW, my ABIT IT5V gets a DMA score of about 40 or so.  It's not great,
but with a fast CPU it really doesn't hold me back too much.  I'll just
have to make due with it until the TX boards are released.

Pentium-MMX Board with fast DMA?

Well I have the Supermicro p5ste board running 200mmx, 64meg ram,
Matrox Millinium, and it flies.  I can turn all textures on in GP2 and
i get the maximum frame rate.  I'm very pleased.  Check out
www.megacom.com for info on the board.

Perhaps he'll appreciate this info, but it's irrelevant.  If you read
his post you'd see that he was looking specifically for a VX board.  He
is using SDRAM and an HX board (like the P5STE) will be of no use to
him.  Secondly, he wanted to know about DMA speeds with regards to the
Rendition based accelerators.  You're using a Matrox card, so again
your input doesn't pertain to him.  I know you're trying to help, but
try to pay a little attention to what is being asked.

Pentium-MMX Board with fast DMA?

Hi everybody,

I just tried to build me a very fast computer around my Rendition card.
Got
a 200-MMX, 32MB S-DRAM DIMM and an IWILL TV-55 motherboard.
But big surprise! The board doesn t support DMA access for the Rendition
card.
Also FIFO is worse than on my old T1-board.

Does anybody of you experience a board with good DMA access with the
Intel-VX chipset and MMX-support? Does DMA access work with the
ASUS P55 TVP4?

I d really like to race Indycar2, Nascar2 .AND. GP2 with good framrates
and
the phantastic textures on.

Thanks for your help!

What do you think of this board? I'm thinking of buying this very
board. What did you pay? ECS has the 512k version for $160.

Thanks!

Pentium-MMX Board with fast DMA?

Thanks for your help.
I finally sold the IWILL 55TV and bought me an ASUS P55T2P4. The setup
for all kinds of CPUs (including MMX, excluding Cyrix 200) is
unproblematic.
I get a DMA score of 120 with the Pentium 200MMX.

Indycar-, Nascar2- Rendition versions fly. Even GP2 runs on all tracks
except
Monaco with CPU-occupancy smaller 100% with nearly all textures on.

This is BAD.

can't be this bad

I have a Tyan S1470-VX motherboard with 512k Pipeline burst cache
16 megs of edo ram
p200-MMX processor
Intergraph Reactor 3D Card

My DMA test scores are 33.1 MB/sec

This sounds waaaayyyy to low.

any help??

Unfortunately there is not much you can do with the VX chipset.  Since
you're using EDO, there is absolutely no reason to have a VX board
anyway.  Switch to SDRAM or get an HX board.  While your DMA scores
will be unaffected by the addition of SDRAM, the entire system will run
much better.

Unfortunately, the newer Tyan MBs have "terrible" DMA scores. Anything
over 40 should be "ok", I didn't see any VQUAKE framerate increases
when tweaking my Titan III from 67 MB/sec to 112 MB/sec (with AMI
BIOS). I did see a 5 FPS increase when going from 11 MB/sec (MR BIOS)
to 67 MB/sec (back to Award BIOS).

Is it possible to switch between different types of BIOS?  I have
Award right now, and there is no option in my BIOS for Pci latency.

Wasnt Tyan supposed to meet about the rendition problem?

Yes, but I haven't heard anything from rendition on any NGs about the
results.

It seems that Tyan only looked at some of the higher end Intergraph
cards.  Please visit the Tyan website <http://www.tyan.com> and leave a
message for the Tech support "asking/demanding" that they give us a PCI
latency timer switch in the Award BIOS.  Please send the e-mail to the
Tech support not the webmaster.

Regarding flashing an AMI over the Award:  It can be done, I have heard
others doing this.  Tyan does not recommend it.  Or you can buy an AMI
BIOS for your Tyan board (contact your vendor).
