GPL & GeForce 2MX Problem

by RS » Tue, 23 Jan 2001 10:01:29

Is there a way to force the 3D Accelerator to work in GPL with a GeForce 2MX
card.  I went from a VooDoo 3 3000 to a GeForce 2 MX and the results in GPL
is horrible.

Thanks

Are you running in d3d? Do you have the d3d patch?
GPL on my MX card looks fantastic.

Don
My GeForce card supports D3D and Open GL, but I don't have an option in GPL
for D3D, only 3DFX and Rendition.  If you are talking about a D3D patch made
for GPL I guess I don't have it.  Could you tell me where to get it.
thanks

Also, what speed CPU are you using?  I had a Celeron 466 o/c to 525 with
a V3 3000.  I switched over to a 32MB GeForce2 GTS and performance was
worse.  Then a few days later, my P3 850 (now o/c to 961) CPU arrived
from an eBay auction.  Runs like a***d gorilla now.  These GF2's seem
to need some hp to really use them to their potential.

I am using a Celeron 566 overclocked to 850 mhz, and it runs beautifully on
it with my GF2 MX.

Yep, get the D3D renderer patch from
http://www.papy.com/gpl/gpl.download.index.html , install it, read the
D3DReadme.txt and put the recommended setting in your core.ini.  Finally
select the d3d renderer in GPL.

"Runs like a***d gorilla"? Really?

Amish racing sims,***d gorillas, what is happening to this ng?

Back on topic, I have a GeForce 2 MX and a Celeron running at 450 MHz and
it's fine now although I did have some problems with the screen frequently
freezing momentarily. I think that turning off FSAA was the cure for that
but I haven't turned it back on to check.

How would he know what a***d gorilla runs like :)  Forget it I don't
want to know.

What frame rates are you getting with GPL?  I have a Cel450 running
with a Voodoo1 (yes one!) and I'm getting like 30fps.  Good enough at
640x480.  Thinking about getting a new video card, maybe an MX or V5
eventhough 3dfx is out of business.

i'm in the same situation, c400 with a tnt2 m64.  i was about to buy a
geforce2 gts (asus v7700deluxe) but after doing a bit of research, i'll get
more gain out of upgrading my cpu then i would upgrading videocards.  they're
the same cost so i think my next upgrade will be a P-III 800E (hopefully find
a slot-1:))

and for sims/ GPL, they're more dependant on a CPU then a GPU.

but maybe thats not so true in your case?  i don't know how much faster a
voodoo1 can go?

I generally get 36 fps using 1152 x 864, detail slider halfway, cars only in
the mirror and all trackside details. I used to get similar results with my
Voodoo2 (800 x 600). It drops lower at the starts of course (20+
momentarily), and I have a bit of a problem with the Bugatti (add-on)
circuit. I bought the GeForce when neither GP3 or Links2001 (!) would have
anything to do with it.

With the old CPU, I could only run the detail slider a little above
halfway, cars only in mirrors, and 800x600 in GPL.  In the pits at
Monza, I'd be about 32-34fps.  Now with the same GF2 GTS & the P3 850
CPU, detail slider is full bore, 1024x768, full mirror detail etc.
Solid 36fps.  Starting line it temporarily dips to 32, but is back to 36
before turn 1.

I agree with the GP3 statement, though!  I went through it's calibration
routine and once it was done I went to the graphics screen to see what
the sim had decided upon.  512x384 with a calculated frame rate of 12.
WTF!?!  I thought it may have been due to the 4xFSAA setting, but maybe
not...
