Someone here came up with the statement that it looks like GP2 with
just a different engine. Just from the screenshots alone I'd say it
looks a lot better actually - software rendering or not. I just hope
they really do something on the engine itself, the 3D graphics part
seems to be fine already.:)

This doesn't look bad for SOFTWARE!! Looks more like TV coverage to
me!!!

Just don't understand why the wheels are included this time (never was
any need for that). Not sure that I'll like the turning wheel, either.
Hope I'll get used to those two changes.

Am I the only person here who thinks everything is a little "square". This
is late 1999, we want more polys on our models, yes, even the trackside.

I meant to also add that it doesn't look too bad however... then again,
Psygnosis' F1 games *look* good.

FANTASTIC! Looks a bit good to me! :o) If it's only software mode,
wouldn't it have been a bit choppy; as in frame rate?

No, no, no!  Get your arms out of my***pit (and the virtual steering
wheel, too) -- I already have arms (and a wheel) of my own, right in front
of me!

I wonder how much of a CPU load those arms, that wheel, AND the moving dash
display attached to the wheel are going to take up?  Will GP3 even be able
to run well on a P3-500?

Other than those concerns, I do have to say that I REALLY like the way it
looks so far -- thanks for the post!

It might just be you -- I think the steering wheel (UG!) is squared-off to
better represent the oddly-shaped wheels that they use in F1.  Other than
that, I don't see too much blockiness.  The tires look good, the AI cars
look good, the trees look good, and the buildings look good -- easily as
good as GPL, from what I can tell from the pictures (which aren't screen
shots, per se, but pictures of a monitor displaying the video).  Much more
photo-realistic than I would have expected at this point in development,
with only D3D suppport.

Hope that***pit moves around... after GPL, it's hard to go back to a sim
that doesn't give you the "hitting the belts" sensation under braking.

No... really???? Duh. I know what shape F1 wheels are I was talking about
the 3d models in general. They look very blocky.

Would be kinda hard to get rid of the virtual steering wheel considering how
much information the modern F1 car displays on it. Think of it as a virtual
instrument cluster with added steering capabilities :)

Sorry, didn't mean to insult -- I just didn't see much else that looked all
that blocky to me, and the wheel (which I figured you knew was a squared-off
wheel) does look a bit blocky, but that's the way they tend to look.

Again, sorry for the confusion.

True, but I hope they include the option to eliminate the arms/wheel and go
with a fixed dash display -- I'd rather have my CPU focusing on the physics
and AI, rather than how many degrees off the horizontal the digits on my
speedometer display should be.

Then again, GP2 was a processor/hardware hog, so why should we expect
anything less from GP3?

  two thoughts:
1:  The West McLaren was on display, but he screen shots only show
Marlboro Ferrari's.  (wonder how the West folks feel about that)
2:  Oh my Gawd...GP2ers are gonna have a heart attack.  did you see it?
it's in there.  A freekin' steering wheel!  next they'll be adding arms
and legs (imagine watching the legs dance while
shifing/accelerating/braking)
