It's out:  http://www.racesimcentral.net/

Just finished downloading it, have not had a chance to install yet.
They don't have the LMP's in yet, or any new tracks, but other than that
it looks pretty good.

The cars a very easy to drive.  I don't run off the road.  I don't
know if it's because of the physics are that the cars are just slower.
It feels a bit like NFS.  The***pit views are great since you are
much closer than the FIA mod.  The FPS are higher too.  I never get
below 30fps (with all graphics turned up) unlike the FIA where I get
as low as 19fps.  A very good 1st release.

I was wondering a bit about the physics myself.  I just tried a few cars
and they seemed a bit easier than the FIA mod.  In particular I never
broke the rear wheels loose accelerating, even though I made a point of
turning ABS off.  I got 2:27's or so at Spa with the BMW, the Callaway,
and the Corvette.  Not too unrealistic, but OTOH this was without
touching the default setup (which definitely did not have optimum
gearing for Spa) and without really working that *** it.  But
absolutely it is a great first effort, and I love the***pit views.

D'oh!  Correction, I meant to say that I had traction control off.
Actually I had all aids off except for the clutch.  Never post when
brain-dead.  ;o)

Try it,........................ IMHO its even better than GT MOd. I
agree the car slection isnt as appealing, but I found the moddeling
and drivability fantastic.

Anyway it happily sits alonside, and now I have 3 choices from the one
sim GP, GT and the series created by these guys, which i thank most
sincerley for there efforts.

Thanks guys, and give it a try if your curious, its way cool.

Cheers

I like this new addon version VERY much! Good looking, good fps,
good feel of reality, the cars are easier to drive than F1's and
FIA GT's - perhaps they are a little more "normal" cars... :)

MANY THANKS to the good gang that made this F1 2001 to ALMS mod!!

By the way - and sorry for my ignorance! - what actually is
this ALMS series? (I am ashamed: even my compatriot JJ Lehto
seems to be driving there... :-)

After trying my first mini Grand Prix (in Malasya!) in my Ferrari
Modena, I must say that I am still more impressed this addon! Well,
I was the last in the race... but that doesn't matter... ;-)

The feel of the car is really good (I use split axis, no driving
assistances on, etc): you really can use also the pedals for
steering and catching a starting spin, etc.

And do I dare to say: after GPL this have come nearest to that
legend! I know, I know, the physics model in N4 is better,
but those heavy N-cars are not that fun to drive (to me!).
These small Ferraris, BMW's, Porsches, ..., feel much more
"GPL-like"... I do not know, if they nowadays are allowed to
use ABS, traction control, etc, in ALMS. But as I said:
without those the feel in this addon is really good!

American Le Mans Series
http://alms.americanlemans.com/

I dug this up when I was trying to get SCGT physics
to match the actual tech specs.

Couldn't find it just now, but there is a page
that goes into detail about the exact differences
in the classes. Some good pdfs with info.

American Le Mans Series

Basically same cars and classes as the "European" Le Mans, but
generally shorter races; anywhere from 2-3 hours up to 12 (maybe up to
24 hours, although I can't think of a 24 hour race off the top of my
head -- wait Sebring, maybe...)
