At the moment i use d3d for GPL as for some reason i cant get it to run in
glide despite having the latest glide patch. I have used voodoo but
performance doesnt seem quits as good. I only have a PIII 500 and would like
other peoples opinions on what is best for all round performance.Ive heard
glide is meant to be better for frame rate but like i say it doesnt seem to
run on this, i get to first screen but cursor disappears. What voodoo
drivers do you recommend for GPL and where can i find them.
thanks in advance

The latest drivers I have are beta8 (unofficial) which were reported to be for
the still-born voodoo6 and gave a significant performance boost.

They seem to work well with GPL and a similar spec machine with the GPL glide
driver.

Not sure where to get them now though - if you can't get hold of them let me
know.

Cheers

by the way i am on windows 98, ive tied the beta 7 drivers but all iget is a
black screen in glide and as for voodoo i get lots of blocks on the screen
when i move cursor. i really would like to give glide a try but dont seem to
have any luck with it

Kevin,

Keep trying; it's worth whatever you have to do.  GPL never looked so good
as when it was running under Glide.  Not in D3d and certainly not under
OpenGL (altho OpenGL *is* fast!).  FWIW, I found some earlier drivers that
worked better than the newer ones.  If nothing else obtains, I might be able
to find the exact release info.

Kevin,

I think the drivers I preferred were the V4/5 98/ME beta 1.04.01s, avail on
the site Michael lists below.

When will I learn?  Everything working fine, I read this and rush to install
the beta8 drivers.  Now 1600 resolution is all screwed up, and I get a failure
window every time I close GPL.
GPL caused an invalid page fault in
module USER32.DLL at 015f:bff558ba.

I used to have a V5, and ran it under 98.  The best set of drivers I
ever had was the Amigamerlin driver set.  Compatible with all my games
(and I've got a *lot* of them), fast and good looking.  Can't comment
on GPL Glide though - I switched to D3D because of some of the add-ons
at the time.
Let me know if you can't track them down - I've got a copy somewhere.
I gave it to my brother with a PIII-866 PC for Xmas (dumb mistake - I
miss that card!), and built it up using XP.  Can't remember what
drivers I used there, though.

HTH,
Kendt

Another V5 tip - update the BIOS to the latest version - IIRC it gave
a big boost to 2xFSAA framerates, and a few other improvements.  I'll
hunt down the instructions for that too if you're interested.
