F1RS slowdown and other problems

Ive just read the F1RS faq which says that cyrix processors will tend
to slow the game down particularly with lots of cars (poor floatpoint
procesing)

i have a pr200 on a tx m/b with 3dfx and certainly during a race i
get massive slowdown on the grid, but during the game with few cars
around the frame rate gets up to 25 fps..

do other cyrix owners notice this? more importantly i guess, do people
with intel pent 200's (or K6 200's) notice an enourmous slowdown
with heaps of cars??

ive noticed this sort of slowdown on other games too, is it the cyrix?

also, do people have the problem of jumping engine sounds? like if
you rev quickly the engine noise 'jumps' from one pitch to the next
in quantum leaps, not smoothly..

comments VERY much appreciated!

I have an Intel P166MMX with Righteous 3D and 32MB Ram.

The game is TOTALLY smooth with only myself or perhaps one car on screen but
I also get enourmous slowdown when there are other cars (ie at the start of
the race).

I never found GP2 to suffer that much when having more cars on the screen
(obviously it
slowed a little but seemed to cope a lot better!).

So what is your question? :-)

I have a P5-200MMX and do not notice this.

There are several things you can do to reduce this.
The most obvious is to reduce graphics detail in the config menu.
Especially replays.

Press CTRL/ALT/DEL to bring up taskman before running the game, end all
tasks except explorer and systray, antthing else is a prime candidate
for slowing the game.

Look in the folder <F1RS dir>\cpa\dll\, where F1RS dir is the folder you
installed to, and double click the Snd_cpa.ini file, change the
following lines
SXD_DIST_SATUR=5
SXD_DIST_FADE=75                (I think these are default)
to
SXD_DIST_SATUR=1
SXD_DIST_FADE=15
save the file and exit notepad. This reduces the loudness of cars around
you and helps the 1st corner slideshow.

A permanent swap file of between 80 - 120 Mb seems to help on my
machine, make sure you still have 100Mb free on your HD though.

Try letting the grid scroll through without pressing ESC, this seems to
help a little.

err buy a faster pc, but if you're like me, your's was pretty fast not
