> The D3D port of F1RS is just pathetic...
You mean your card is pathetic.
Ya, you just said it... using the ATI.
So let me get this straight... the one who first complained about the
slowdowns in race was using a P166/32/3Dfx configuration. Your P200MMX
is nothing special, that alone won't explain the difference. Now, are we
supposed to believe that your framerates NEVER drop, not even if you had
20+ full detail F1 cars drawn ahead of you. Boy, you must have some 3Dfx
card there. When will it be commercially available?
As for the question, 3Dfx or D3D, the answer is almost too obvious. If
Ubi recommends 3Dfx, then who can you believe if not the manufacturer
itself. 3Dfx it is. They just added the D3D to reach a larger market.
In defense of the D3D cards though, it has to be kept in mind that while
3Dfx cards form a relatively homogeneous pack, D3D cards come in all
"shapes & sizes" imaginable. Therefore D3D gamers' experiences of the
same title may vary, not just slightly, but _considerably_. So much in
fact that one D3D gamer may praise the game to nth heaven while the other
judges the game as being the most unplayable load of ***he's ever laid
his fingers on.
Btw, exactly what are the effects in F1RS that D3D players are missing
out? I've already read several statements saying the D3D version wasn't
that much slower but all the slick effects were missing. Which effects
are these?
