GTR2002 sounds -- AMAZING

Sorry to start yet ANOTHER GTR thread, but I don't think enough emphasis
has been put on the quality of the sounds in this game. They are quite
simply the best sounds I have ever experienced in ANY game, PERIOD.

If you have a decent set of headphones, hook them up and turn up the
volume -- a LOT. Now jump in the Viper or (my favorite) the Marcos. If a
couple of laps listening to that doesn't get your heart racing, you are
brain dead. The way they crackle, pop, and burble when you let off the
gas, the sound at redline, it's just ART I tell ya. I am ***LOVING***
this game (I keep forgetting it's just a mod.) If turbos are your thing,
spend a couple of laps listening to the turbo whine and the wastegate
whoosh on the 993 Turbo. It brings back memories of my '86 Buick Grand
National.

Interestingly enough, the NGT cars don't sound nearly as good as the GT
cars...

Sorry not to be annoying, but the wastegate is a valve which controlls the
maximum boost of the turbo, the bypass/blow off valve is what vents excess
boost while the throttle is closed. Downloading it now, cant wait!

Actually it is the other way around. The wastegate is the thing that
releases the pressure when you drop the throttle, and the valve is set so
that when the boost reaches a certain pressure, it opens the wastegate to
keep it at a set boost value.

Sorry, re-read your post and figured I got the wrong valve. You were right
;-)

Agreed  : ).  I'm blown away by the sounds in general, but I agree with a
couple of people who reckon that they've over-done the distortion on the
Ferrari 360.  It sounds great from the swingcam view, but from the in-car
view it sounds like GPL on WinXP & SBLive after a Shift-R  :(

On my system (WinXP and SBLive now that you mention it ;-) the NGT cars
don't sound good at all. But really, who cares when we have the Viper
and Marcos GT cars!!! :-)

I agree with Todd, the NGT sounds are only so so, but the GT cars are
something else! Personal taste I guess...

I am running Philips Rhythem Edge with 4 speakers...

Sorry to disagree, but I have to. Having watched the FIA (N)GT races live at
Zolder last year, from the outside at least, that's how they sound. The
distortion on the NGT Porsches is correct, because, believe me, if you stand
trackside without ear protection, your ears will "clip"!!

Jan,

You are more than welcome to disagree because you have been to an FIA
race and I never have. I believe you when you say the sounds of the HGT
cars are true to life -- I just personally like the sounds of the GT
cars (Marcos and Viper in particular) much better :-)

Of course I meant NGT -- my fingers are sore from driving so much so I
can't type ;-)
