Nelson and his gang charge a HEFTY fine for cheating in NASCAR.  Better
watch out (ask Jr. Johnson, Ricky Rudd or the Rainbow Warriors).

Edit the taladega.txt file in the tracks subdirectory.  Change the
first character in the line that begins with spdwy from 1 to 0.  Its
good for an extra 25-30 mph on the main straight.

It's only cheating if you get caught...

Is it possible to remove the restrictor plates on the AI cars?  The
only reason I haven't removed it on my car is that I don't want to be
the only one without it.

Personally, I hate Talladega because of the restrictor plates.  You
can't ever let up on the gas or you lose momentum.  Once you get out of
the draft you start falling behind.  If you get behind the pack you
might as well forget it.

Yes and no.   You *can* make them faster, but, they'll still take a lap
or two to hit top speed by increasing the RELS setting.

That's not entirely true.  Once behind the pack you can use their draft
to catch up to them.  If they go two wide (or more) you get a much larger
draft and can catch up sooner.

What the heck is a restrictor plate?  What do they do, and how do
you turn them on/off in NASCAR Racing?  Please help.

Actually, if you inflate your tires to 60 psi and crank the right side
shocks to 100% front and about 60% rear, you'll smoke everybody at 100%
competition even with a restrictor plate.  The car doesn't plant well in
the turns, though, so watch out for the walls.

That said, I ran that setup without a restrictor plate for the first time
last night and simply overpowered it.  I couldn't generate enough turning
force to clear the trioval, no matter how many times I tried.  Anyone
have a good record-setting no-restrictor-plate setup for Talladega?

I meant that if the pack leaves you behind, you might as well park it.

Also, I think that the tri-oval is not quite realistic.  In real life
the drivers don't seem to have a problem with it.

In the game, I have to let up a little to maybe 185 or so just to make
it through.  I can't imagine making it going about 200 as they did in
the old days.

First, remove the restrictor plate in the track.TXT file, then toward the
bottom of the file there is a line that gives the relative AI strength,
somewhere around 100 (for 100%). I bumped this up to 120, and now my
unrestricted car and the AI cars are pretty evenly matched up.

A restrictor plate is a plate with four small holes drilled in it.
It is secured between the carby and the intake manifold and is
designed to limit the amount of air entering the engine and therefore
the horsepower the engine can produce.   This reduces the speed and in
theory makes the races safer.   Most drivers believe that it is in
fact more dangerous because all the cars have to run in 'trains'.

To remove the plate in NASCAR Racing, edit the Taladega.txt file.
Change the first charater after SPDWY from 1 to 0.   The AI cars will
still have their plates attached.   Hold on at the tri-oval or have a
spare pair of shorts handy.

Craig.

With all of the questions about the restrictor plate, importing PCX files,
setups, etc. maybe we could get a FAQ for NASCAR going (if one is already out
there, I haven't seen it).  Anybody have any experience putting together a
FAQ?
